AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

Will do. Might actually check them out on Bond St in a few days - take advantage of the weak GBP!

It's not like you can have too many pairs of shoes anyway. They're a staple, like bread, milk, clothes, lip balm, champagne, hair product and Prada. Things that can bought at merchants that accept AMEX of course.

Come now, we all know that life is far too short to wear bad shoes.

When you are in KL next month, QF009, I suggest that you pop into the Lanvin boutique and get yourself a pair of Richelieu shoes. They are so divine, I literally moaned with pleasure when I saw them.

Oh, and yes, they accept Amex.

Hair product is so over rated :)

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

That depends upon whether or not you have hair, does it not :?: :p
Not necessarily. I have most of my hair and I can safely say that hair product is so over rated.

JohnK,

I don't entirely agree. I have enough hair left to say that some hair product is over rated, however some is really good :!:

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

I am an Optus Corporate customer, no surcharges for credit cards on my bill! Maybe it's only for retail?

I was an Optus corporate customer until recently and always got charged a credit card surcharge (same for all cards).

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

I dread saying the words "Do you take American Express" - such a good card but they really need to expand the amount of locations where their card is taken.

I'm used to it - usually just mumble "take amex?". Sometimes the dumber ones interpret that to mean "do you accept credit card payment?" and just answer yes automatically, only to back down when they realise. Those are the only ones that I hate, 'coz it's like raising my hopes, and then dashing them on the rocks of dispair. Hahaha...

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

That really irks me, you hand over your card... and then the transaction fails. I then ask "Don't you take AMEX?" "Oh, no, we don't".

It makes me wonder why they don't tell you that when they see your card!!! Obviously not thinking on the job.

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

The question do you take Amex is one that I never like asking.

Generally I find the places that do not accept it have no signage at all about accepting credit cards.

The ones that do accept it usually have a big blue Amex sticker/sign I have found!

While this does annoy me sometimes, most of the time the terminal just comes up with "Card not accepted", stopping it from going through when they have no agreement with Amex, or when the terminal hasn't been setup correctly.

I wish more of these people you speak of (the non-observant type) worked at places that surcharge! Having said that, I've managed to avoid the JB surcharge a few times - as they didn't look at the card or receipt to see if it was Amex or Diners, and just closed it off to Visa/MC :D This usually works more often if you're dealing with someone younger, and wearing some kind of work uniform yourself - as they probably think you wouldn't have an Amex or Diners card, and are too busy chatting to their friends at work. :D

Sorry to double-post, but I only just saw your message. :)

I've had mixed experiences - places that have no logos but accept all cards (as we do at work), and places that only display logos for EFTPOS/Visa/MC, but also take Amex (no surcharge) if you ask, or just give them the card. :D

It depends on how much hair you have, i.e. length and volume, but particularly length. Most women with long hair would argue that good hair products are not over rated.

I guess it might prove that you are not a woman with long hair, and neither is Markis

Did you mean Oz_mark? ;)

We are all different. I have a reasonable amount of hair, although it is thinning rapidly, and only slightly more than Oz_mark. :p My hair varies from a number 3-4 cut to whatever length it grows in 8-10 weeks and it gets washed with soap daily. I do not like the feel or look of my hair after shampoo and/or conditioner and stopped using these products over 30 years ago....

Re: AMEX not accepted or surchage

I think AMEX did not handle very well about the merchant accepting, today after chose the favorite shirt in MARCS, pay as normal to use my AMEX but was told there is 2.5% surcharge:evil:. I can understand some small local retail shops surcharge a little bit to cover their costs but as a fashion shop, I never had that experience before, so sad. I don't think I will shop in MARCS again because that is absolutely ridiculous.

Thats where I or mrsdrron say(if not a must have purchase) well just tell your boss your CC policy has lost you a sale and walk off. This really does irk me.More so in restaurants where you are stuck when they hit you with it-again they are often told we will not be back.If there is a surcharge there should be a notice to that effect which is easily seen.

A cost is a cost, a small or large business accepting AMEX is an extra cost

Except that a large business with a high credit card throughput should be in a position to negotiate a better deal with organisations like Amex and Diners, such that the difference between the Visa/Mastercard fees and Amex/Diners fees should not be in the order of 2-3%.
