AMEX not accepted or surcharge

So how much commission does the Post Office earn for paying Medibank invoices?

Anyway I am starting to worry now as I am home and still no letter from Medibank or a phone call. :( Will I still be covered next month?

If you are charged around the 11th of the month, then the September charge should still go through, which will keep you current to October. After that, they will send you an invoice.

Paul Hogan may get to appreciate that the AMEX surcharge at the Tax Office is only 1.25% for personal tax bills.

If he puts that amount on his Amex he could become one of the first to get to 55 million points with Qantas. And the fee would be only $462,500 for the payment.

Then he could have 132 around the world F tickets on points or 198 in J :!:

Now that shows us how envious we should be of all those high taxpayers.
That is quite a lot of flights for a family.

I am aware that the $1million figure was off a spin sheet.

What benefit does this extra million give to Mb members? Lower premiums? Higher/more benefits paid out? I won't be holding my breath.

It will provide a decent bonus for the directors and senior management and if there is anything left over it will go towards a better staff Christmas Party. ;)

Here's a bizarre thing.Tiger Airways seems to accept Visa, Mastercard and Diners:shock:, but not Amex:!:

Same case for a few of the regional airlines (Brindabella is one)... When I asked them why AMEX was dropped, they advised that in some cases their customers received their services (ie flights) before the airline received the money in their account... I just ignored this response as ridiculous, because that's what happens with EVERY card type when used close to a flight (or for ANY other purchase) - ie you enter a store and pay using AX, the store gets the money within the next few business days, while you leave with the goods then and there... and the problem is??? It would seem that in this case, Brindabella has serious cashflow issues - which makes me curious as to what amount they have available to spend on maintenance and safety... haha

Meanwhile, I reported Tiger to Amex a week or two ago (I don't intend on flying with them - but it may be handy to have Amex working in case I have to book flights with them for others)... And as they have a "Now accepting Diners Club" logo on their AUS home page, I'm guessing this was only done recently and showing the logo here got them some kind of fee discount... haha

I think that is a myth, and BS answer they give out.

My work had been accepting AmEx for many years, always using electronic settlement.

If someone pays us on Monday (before settlement), then we get our money on Tuesday night / Wednesday morning. As you can imagine the process: Monday night settlement sending the whole batch of AmEx transactions to AmEx, AmEx send us the money on Tuesday, we the money clears into our account on Tuesday night / Wednesday morning during inter-bank clearing.

The only situation where it takes a week for a merchant to get their money from AmEx, is when they use manual click clack vouchers, because they need to post the vouchers to AmEx for processing. And this is stupid, because banks do not charge people adding their AmEx facility to their EFTPOS terminal / payment gateway

Just back on the Medibank thing, I changed my payment to Visa, and they asked for a start date so I put October. Instead of continuing to charge my Amex for September and then Visa from October, they're deferring my payment from Sept to Oct (i.e. a double month whammy in Oct.)

What a weird system.

You have got to love big business :!: (Sometimes)

Have just switched to a new car insurer Buzz which takes AMEX unlike my current insurer (AAMI). Buzz is also a bit cheaper (even after including windscreen and hire car options) and lets me choose my own repairer.

Who is Buzz :?:

I have never heard of them. :(

Seems they are an online offshoot of IAG (was NRMA). Interesting that the quick quote provided a lower agreed value compared to my current IAG policy.
