Quick question-

had a glance at the T+C but couldn't see eligibility criteria anywhere for the travel insurance on an AmEx Platinum Credit Card.

I am going to bali next week for a long weekend with my girlfriend, booked flights on the CC with Pacific Blue for both of us. Anyone know if she will be covered for the trip?

Thanks

I don't know the answer to your question but I believe the T & C are viewable on the web site. You could always ring Amex and ask for the link if you can't find it.

From Amex site:

"Overseas and Domestic Travel Insurance1 - You and your family will be protected around the world."

Always check t&c, but my experience with amex is that purchasing travel on the card is a great way to get the insurance for family.

At least one of the Platinum cards (small business one) gives you travel insurance even when you don't pay using the card (which helps justify the $1200 a year cost of the card)...

Maybe you should think about getting a supplementary card for your GF. Even if travel is not paid for by both cards, I think having a supplementary card will make any claim more likely to be accepted by the insurance company in respect of coverage for your GF.

These are the T&C linked to on the site

http://www.americanexpress.com/australia/pdfs/platinum_credit_terms_condition.pdf

As I read it the travel cover is extended to "You" and "You" is defined to mean the cardholder, Spouse or Dependant Child.

Spouse is defined as:

"Spouse means basic holder of an American Express Platinum Credit
Card member’s husband, wife, fiance(e) or a de facto and/or life
partner with whom the American Express Platinum Credit Card
member has continuously cohabited for a period of six (6) months
or more."

HTH

PS: Not legal advice, I'd ring them if you have any concerns

Thanks guys, found the relevant section after i'd posted - who would have thought it would be in the FAQ rather than part of the T+Cs!

Anyway, as we don't live together officially, she probably isn't covered. But seeing as it excludes some things might just buy insurance anyway.

Got to love TID!
