How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Hilton Yokohama
Status: Gold
Booked: 2 Nights. Twin
Room upgraded to higher floor.
Price: 24k yen a night.
Location: 15 minutes walk from Yokohama station, so we took a taxi over with our suitcases (900yen)

Offered breakfast at check in due to status and upgraded to higher room floor. Solidly spacious for a JP hotel. Breakfast is standard western buffet but extremely busy. They didn't even replace the orange juice or ketchup. The food itself was soso, but just the speed they replaced things were extremely slow especially for things that didn't need cooking.

Otherwise this is one of the cheaper Hilton's in this part of Japan and a solid base if you're visiting the Yokohama area. If you want a bigger hotel and don't mind the 40minute commute, you could even setup base here for Tokyo.

Ah, yes. Mr Ronald van Weezel. First to introduce the coffee tax, when at Hilton Brisbane, and then brought the tax with him to Hilton Sydney. I remember him well.
Micromanagers often come unstuck when the big issues become mor relevant

He was much better than the current one.
Penny pinching has stepped up a notch. The afternoon tea is gone, so are the green bottles of sparkling water. The new exec lounge is 1/3 of the previous capacity, it’s full in less than 10mins from 5pm. They’ve set up more tables outside of the lounge but that was full as well before 5:30pm.

The new GM is purely focussed on revenue generating and have converted the previous lounge into 11 more rooms. For someone that has clocked significant number of stays with them, I get the same spiel about full occupancy and paying for higher upgrades as well.
I miss the more customer oriented GMs like Ronald and Hayden.

The new lounge isn’t terrible though, and I prefer the self service bar. You can definitely get your money’s worth now.

A bit of a zoo, we were denied entry initially but were given vouchers for the lobby bar (beer and wine only with an antipasto platter), then they called to say we could go in about an hour later. It was Boxing Day and the hotel was chockers.

As Diamond I still find they will upgrade to executive rooms, I assume because it saves the hotel money versus upgrading someone with lower status that wouldn’t be able to access the lounge.

I guess we will find out for ourselves on jan 24 prior to the AFF cruise.
Just checked my Hilton app - obviously no soft landing so I'm going from Platinum for the last 6 years to Silver :(
Remember you can apply for a once off Diamond extension. That's what I am doing.

Ok seems it was mainly the holidays/Sunday.

Quiet today on a Monday.

Question,

I have Gold with Hilton - if i book a 10night stay via AMEX Travel, will i still earn points to my HH account and associated gold benefits (free breakfast for 2pax mainly)?

My understanding is that if the hotel is a AMEX Fine Hotels and Resorts booking than YES where you will earn points and have status recognition but if its just via the AMEX Travel page than NO as its a Expedia booking

I usually either book either virtuoso if its a higher end hotel (Waldorf, Conrad, LXR) to also get the the additional perks or directly if its a regular hotel (Hilton, Curio)

And not for all FHR hiltons, either. If it’s important email the hotel to ask so you have it in writing.
But for normal Amex travel, by the letter of the program you will not.

Thats interesting you still earn with HH if booking is made via AMEX Fine Hotels . The one im looking at is on this.

Furthermore, its on the AMEX page, it indicates that AMEX Fine Hotels by default attact free daily breakfast, 4pm checkout, room upgrade, noon checkin etc anyway. Which is quite interesting as that means these benefits bypass the HH rewards/status anyway???

I book under a virtuoso rate (similar if not the same as AMEX FHR rates) mainly because of the free cancellation policy, the perks as you stated and the ability to also stack any further perks I would get with my HH status.

I've received multiple upgrades this way
