Amex Platinum Approval time?

Got my decline letter and it had nothing to do with credit info. It was about being unable to verify some details of my application. WTF? So I've sent them a secure message about it and will follow up with a call tomorrow. Weird...

Definitely follow this up if you can. Seems weird that they didn't follow up with you on the discrepancy prior to decline..

Agree but it's not the first time I've seen something like this. Amex were disgraceful with how they handled mum's application about 2 years ago. "We can't verify your employer's details. They don't have a website and aren't in the Yellow Pages." That is literally the stupidest thing I've ever heard. So she can't work for a group in a niche in industry that don't need or want to market in that way? Had given payslips AND tax return AND bank statements but still wouldn't budge. Utterly insane. I hope I don't have a similar issue...

I applied for The Platinum Card on the weekend and got a sms on Monday saying it had been approved and will be delivered within 7 days. Just read the website though and see I am not eligible for the 80k promotion due to already holding an Amex card (Velocity Platinum). I think I will have a think about whether to activate the card or not as not sure whether there is enough benefits with the $1200 annual fee without the 80k points.

YMMV but I would be surprised if you didn't receive the points despite what the website says.

Should've used a referral link and got 90K! Wonder if it's too late to do retrospectively but before receiving and activating the card.

Turns out I had exactly the same problem. Had to have my employer list in the Yellow Pages and edit the Contact Us page of their website to get it over the line (as they operate under a trading name). Completely stupid but I now have an Amex Platinum Charge card in the mail headed my way! :)

Awesome work!

Thanks. It's ridiculous that the yellow/white pages are their be all and end all for employer verification. There were no security measures in place or vetting processes for them to list. They could be a fake company and Amex would magically validate them being with Sensis. Anyway, once you know the rules of the game you can play to win!

Pretty silly of them, I'd ask for more points to comp you for the trouble. Have you tried your luck? haha

I applied for the Amex Plat Edge card on Thursday 30th April. Received an email request for a JP signed utility bill and drivers/license passport for proof of address (no pay slips or calls to my HR dept) on Sunday 3rd May. I uploaded these to the website on Monday 4th and received an email to say the card was in the mail on Wednesday 6th. This is my first Amex card and I have a good credit rating; only 1 other CC though (Bankwest More Rewards Plat) that I treat as a debit.

I applied on a Saturday. Got approval in the Thursday. Wife's card arrived in the Monday but mine didn't arrive until the Wednesday. All up, a week and a half.

Surprisingly they didn't ask for any financials or anything, where as Citi prestige wanted 2 years of personal and business and tax for both as well as verifying it with the accountants (but I got the card in 7 days)

Not completely on topic, but related - has anyone had issues getting the companion Reserve card?

I've asked them twice to sent the paperwork, but nothing has turned up. They sent me the direct debit paperwork (joint account) in two days, so they definitely have my address correct. Probably time to call them again this week :-/

I thought it was just me. I was planning on ringing again tomorrow. By itself, I would only get 1 point for almost everything. I asked for the Platinum Edge and they said it wasn't a problem and would send me the paperwork.

They'll give you the Edge (bonus supermarket and petrol earn) as the companion card without the fee? I thought you could only get the Reserve free which has the same earning structure as the charge card itself, I only wanted it for the free flight :) You can apply for the Edge online, but not the reserve since it's not available apart from as a companion (or via certain organisations iirc).

Does anyone have any idea how long I should have had my job for before applying?

I have been in my current job for only around 4 months and am earning over the minimum 50k requirement. Other issue is I just bought investment property, however this is tenanted and costs me minimal per week.

Thanks

I'd hold one down for at least 8 months to a year before applying. Is this your first credit card?

The investment property would work in your favor, but you'd been seen to have more debt to pay off.

Thank you, will hold off till end of year at least then. I previously held Amex last year, never really used it. I applied for a change in credit card last year with them and got rejected (I think because I had applied for a few last year due to sign up bonuses). I cancelled my Amex soon after due to the home loan application

Wait till you've been off Amex for a year, maybe you can get bonus points too. Keep in touch and I can send a referral too.

In the meantime, can you leverage your mortgage to get a credit card from them if you need it?

It's a minimum 100k income. Do you meet that?
