Hey Blockers,
great to hear your card arrived and hopefully points soon as well!
Just a side note, I had an issue with using my $200 travel credit. As it turned out, there was something funny going on with my account as it had the velocity platinum card and also platinum charge linked. when going to the amex travel section it would always default to seeing the velocity plat card (with no way to change it either)
It was later solved by creating a separate account for the velocity plat card. so hopefully you don't have any similar issues, but that was the solution if you need it :)

Still waiting for my reserve application to arrive in the mail (sent 2 times already!) if all else fails, they can Fax it. but who has a fax anymore!?? ;)

Cheers,

P.S for 1,200 bucks, you'd think the card would look flashier... ;)

Ha.. mine's still got that brand new vibe - a few weeks getting scuffed up in the wallet will fix that!
Thanks for the tip re travel credit - will see how I go. Yeah, I got asked if I'd like them faxed.. no thanks, it's not 1991.
Good luck with the app - i've read on AFF they have misplaced/been slow with a few companion apps. I'm guessing they could be busy with the massive amount of attractive signup deals there have been out.

PS - as you predicted, they knew it was me.. my new card arrived with the little 'member since' updated to when I first joined :)

plat charge has arrived - activated and ready to go! ........ was told Reserve and why would I want the Edge,

So may I ask if you have received your points? Both myself and +1 have the AMEX Velocity Platinum and we'd love to grab a quick 240k points. By the sounds of it, people are getting the points even tough they do have the AMEX Velocity Plat?

Do I also take it that the Edge is a card with benefits over the Reserve and it is available to us as existing AMEX customers? Can I ask what the benefits of the Edge are (sounds like free return flight and hotel night)? Any additional fees as a companion card?

Edge is not available as a free companion card unfortunately . Either $199 annual fee (15,000 bonus points), or free in the first year via priceline (also get 13,500 points)
3 points @ supermarkets
2 points @ petrol stations
1 point @ everywhere else.

this is why most people want the edge as a free companion rather than the reserve which is essentially doubling up on 'features'

Having said that, the Reserve does offer you a free flight, all the way to NZ if you choose.

Many thanks, I have only just started looking at CC earn/churn. So it seems, varying your cards on select purchases, it almost seems like a 1 for 1 is a poor deal these days.

What time frame for posting of bonus points are members experiencing? My experience with AMEX over the journey is that they have been very prompt in posting bonus points.

for me it was at the same time as your $1,000 spend appears in your online statement. It seems to be completely automated which seems so much better than a handful of other banks whom you sometimes to need to chase up your missing points. The travel credit only appears after you pay your annual fee though.

I think I'm going to give this offer a go. I currently have the gold charge which I don't use anymore but gives me "free" platinum edge. I understand I can hold 2 charge cards at the one time. Has anyone applied under this offer and holds another charge card? I'm trying to weigh up if that might affect my chances on the bonus.

Question, does charge cards affect my borrowing power on home loans? I know Credit cards definitely do, so if it doesn't then I will get rid of my CC and go for a charge card I think.

In my experience I've never been asked to include them as they aren't revolving credit so they aren't used in your serviceability assessment (currently assuming 3% of your limits per month for credit card payments). I recommend checking with your bank or finance broker just to be on the safe side. Sounds reasonable to substitute charge cards for credit cards if not a revolver but for greater variety of offerings from credit cards.

Hi albyd - in this thread, phamid discuss he has 4 cards (2 being reserve and edge cards) - might be worth asking him if he got one on a points signup?

Hi Blockers, thanks for pointing out this thread to me. I'll message phamid re their experience. Assuming it's positive :)
