Amex Platinum Charge Card 75,000 Bonus for New Approvals (valid to March 2011)

I just called up about upgrading to the Amex Plat Charge, the girl said if you upgrade from an existing Amex you don't get 75,000 points, even though the wording on the website says "for new Amex plat charge card holders". She said they have submitted feedback to Membership Rewards to get the wording changed to avoid confusion... don't know if she is talking out of her a$s or what but if so, that really removes the benefit of getting a new Plat Charge!

Thx for the reply. I hope that's not true. What if we cancel the current plat card and join the plat charge?

I'm pretty sure its not true as well and that you would be rightly expecting 75,000 bonus points on the basis of the current wording. I would do a screenshot, just in case. I wouldn't cancel the existing card if you have paid the annual fee and have existing points on it, or have yet to redeem the free flight.

However if they do change the terms later on... well...

bazza,
Not correct...I have several including Gold Charge, Plat c.c, Qantas Ultimate, I had held a Plat Charge some time
ago but cancelled it, I applyed for the Plat Charge again and recieved it also the 75k points under this promo
so I dont know what she is talking about.

agree - the 75k points won't apply if you are an existing charge card holder - credit card is OK. This was my experience as i held a qantas amex discovery credit card.

I was an Amex Gold Charge card holder when I applied and I received the 75,000 points.

It's not that confusing! As long as you're applying for a new plat charge card (ie don't currently have one), you should get the 75k points.

Like many others, I applied for the plat charge while already having a plat reserve cc, gold cc and a plat Westpac Krisflyer cc.
75k has been posted no problems.

Can't say I agree with that. I had moved from an Engineers Australia (EA) Gold AMEX to an EA Platinum AMEX and then on to the Charge Card and picked up the 75k of points. They even left the existing Platinum AMEX Credit Card as the accompanying card.

Same good experience as others - have had a charge card for years, made a new application for platinum, got the 75K points around 6 weeks after qualifying card spend, then cancelled old charge card & received a pro-rata refund on fees.

I jumped the gun & phoned when I thought enough time had elapsed for my points to appear. The person I spoke with reminded me the timing starts after qualifying spend, & told me they would follow it up after the due date. They were also able to tell me that it was noted in my profile that I WAS eligible for the points. The day after my points posted the same person rang me back to check that I had seen them. :)
