Previously on the Amex Platinum Charge you were able to add more than 4 supp cards for free, but apparently ever since the annual fee went up to $1450, they're now also charging a $700 supplementary cardholder fee if you have more than 4 cards.

Has anyone seen any recent communication from Amex regarding this new $700 fee?

LOL What?

P.S. I don't have this card, was considering to apply for this but definitely not after seeing Priority Pass Restaurant benefits cut off and if this is true, it's a joke.

I thought a maximum of four (for free) was allowed, with no option to get any more. Maybe this is new?

A joke nonetheless.. You would seriously need to cull someone to keep it to four, or get another 7 people on your account to make up for it surely.

Personal Charge card is always 4, but Business version can have up to 99.

It's not new. It's always been possible to add more than 4 supps on the platinum charge for free as I wrote in my original post. The exception is gold charge, gold credit and I think green charge cards which have always had a supplementary cardholder fee.

Just checked my papers - it mentions $0 fee for 'up to 4 additional cardholders', but doesn't specify what fee would be charged were you to somehow get more cards.

I would think that if there's no fee specified/published, they shouldn't able to willy-nilly charge you $700 if they issued you more cards!

Regardless, $700 is crazy... unless it provides with all supplementary card members with full priority pass membership and all hotel status.

On a side note, does 3rd and 4th supp card get the hotel status such as Hilton Gold?

They sure do. All supp cards get the hotel status benefits (except for Accor Plus, which is limited to the primary cardholder only).

I got hit with this fee about 18 months ago when adding a supp. No disclosure and Amex CSR didn’t know what it was when I first asked, had to ask around.

You’re allowed 4 supps at no charge but this doesn’t include the primary cardholder’s “A/c” card

Is this still true?
I also remember sth similar.
1 base card + 1 A/C card + 4 supp cards
(+ 1 base reserve + 4 supp reserve)

The professional Platinum cards (which have a lower fee) only have a maximum of 4 free supps whether one is an A/C or not

Possible to get a reference on this?

Hope this link works; it's from the RACP site

Thanks for the link. But it didn't say the A/C is one of the four supp cards.

The T&C looks no difference between the professional version and the standard version.

I was told this was a point of difference by a phone agent.
When I shared some Amex lounge love by requesting a 4th supplementary (in addition to an A/C), I was billed a significant fee (~$700 from memory). It was reversed on cancelling the A/C

I wonder why as the primary holder can hardly find a space.

If this is the case, I think that difference is not sufficiently communicated.
Good on you to get it reversed. Thanks for sharing.

I have my card, my A/C + 4x supps at the moment.
haven't requested anymore
