Thanks for the referral link. I applied last night, and already have an approval SMS - they're damn quick :)

The welcome pack and the information on the Amex online services says 1 point/$ for other like what the referral links still say, but I can argue with them about that later.

Now I just need to find some friends who want a referral to get my own bonuses :)

I guess I'm just special :D

For anyone thinking of it :

Eligibility:

To save time before you apply for your Platinum Card, it's best to make sure you can say yes to the following:

  • I am aged over 18
  • I am an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • I have a personal gross (pre-tax) annual income of $100,000 or more
  • I have no history of bad debt or payment default
  • And if self employed, I have been trading for at least 18 months or 12 months if I hold an existing American Express issued Card

How well they check is an entirely different question. I applied around 8:30pm one night and was approved by lunch the next day, without asking for any proof of my income or talking to my employer :)

That should be "unlike", oops. That is the referral links still say 2/$ for "other" and the online service and mailed information say 1/$.

It's the end of my first month, and I've received the normal points per dollar, not the different values on the referral page. I've raised it with them, and pointed them to my own referral link https://www316.americanexpress.com/...merHub&MGMURN=AAAAEgUBGhoUCw==&CPID=999999484 to show them.

After a bit of back and forward communication, they have confirmed that the earning structure on the referral page is incorrect (it is as normal for the Platinum charge card), the 90000 sign-up bonus is correctly different, and everything else is the same between the public and referral sign up page. They said it was their mistake, and after a polite but grumpy email for me, they said they would give me 2000 MR points to make it up to me. I can't say no to free points :)

I'll apologise in advance if its under my nose and I can't see it... but where does it mention the free flight to Perth or NZ and how do you 'claim' it? I can't even see the Accor membership offer. Am I missing something obvious?

As an existing Accor member only a few months into my current membership, I wonder if they would stack that? I think not, but might give them a call and see.

The free flight is from the companion Reserve or Edge credit card. Accor is buried in the fine print. Maybe not on that page? But definitely on the general info page for the card on the Amex site. Just remember there are better referral links to use, like mine ;) :P

I think I explained the benefits of this card pretty well .
and I have a more color full avatar!

The value is there in the first year (and thereafter IF they bribe you sufficiently to stay, when you ring to cancel) but if not, the citi prestige is a better, cheaper card IMO. I do not have a referral link! ;)
