As per title, this card needs no introduction.

Normally $195, now free for the first year, looks like you get 5,000 points on signup. Not as good as the previous 15k offer, but beats a kick in the teeth.

If there's anyone out there that hasn't decided to get this card yet, and have managed to avoid the bombardment of 'referral offers' (at least, when they weren't gone) then here's your chance.

Here's the link

Props to ozbargain for this tip.

Enjoy

I'm wondering what are my chances of getting this offer with a transfer from my useless qantas discovery amex... I've been meaning to close it for a while, so I might ring them and see what they say.

According to the T&C you don't get the deal if transferring from a different card, & the deal is not available to signups from people who's held an amex for the last 12 months.

Though people have reported mixed results from the latter when applying for other deals that have had the same clause in the past, so YMMV.

I've been extremely happy with this card for the past 3-4 years now. I solely use the card at supermarkets and petrol station, where it earns 3x / 2x respectively. I transfer to Kris Flyer at 1:1 so I'm a happy camper.

In my experience, Amex don't let you do a product transfer in the traditional sense you get with the banks. You have to apply from scratch as a newbie and get through the credit checks then they'll approve you and you can transfer your existing card limit across to your new card.

So can you get the free trip to Perth from Melb as I read in the past it was only offered the otherway round?
If you have the Bank AMEX does this void the offer?
Who is going to dump the ANZ BLACK(If we ever see the the 50K in points) and then get this closer to expiry date?
So is 5K in MR points 5k in Virgin or Kris Flyer points?

They don't care about bank issued amex, just amex issued ones.
It'll only let you fly Perth to eastern cities and back, not vice versa.

I guess I'll call them and see what they say, close the disco card if they don't say yes and then try applying before the end date...

I wouldn't bother calling - as others have said Amex don't do transfers between credit card products (only charge cards),

if you're not fussed too much about the points I would just apply and not quote your existing Amex number - with any luck they won't bother linking the 2 together and you'll get the new member bonus

I'm not fussed about the points, but I am about the $195!

LOL.

I just received an offer to transfer from vanilla Platinum credit card to Platinum Edge with $195 annual fee and free flight + 15,000 bonus MR points on first eligible spend within 12 months.

I am currently paying $80/year for Amex membership rewards where as it is included in this deal for $195/year.

In the letter they used Velocity as an example of transferring points. I have no interest to transfer to Velocity for now. I am guessing all the other usual airlines are available?

So buying wow or coles gift cards outside of supermarket..... No extra points?

Offer is only available for new customer only. If you are holding any AMEX card within last 12 months, you are NOT eligible. If you are loyalty with AMEX since previous years, you are NOT eligible. If you are larger spender etc, you are NOT eligible.

If you cancel your cards 12 months ago, then you are eligible, if you have never had any AMEX cards which are directly issued by AMEX, then you are eligible.

All in all, never hold your AMEX cards for more than 12 months, otherwise you will not get any introductory offers.

I have held the Gold Amex which was transferred to Platinum Amex a few years ago and have had it for nearly 15 years.

I get introductory offers such as 2.99% on purchases for 6 months and regular balance transfer offers.

Glad to hear that, but that offer is not good enough IMHO, especially compare with new applicant they treat.

I've noticed Gold charge card is no longer on their website - I'm guessing no longer possible to get that card bundled with the plat edge?

EDIT: Managed to find a link through their 'Find me the right card' page, however it seems to have disappeared from everywhere else.

Correct, as per this thread the gold card, plat reserve and green card are all discontinued. There's commentary in that thread indicating that they're rejecting new applicants for those. So I recommend you apply sooner rather than later.

I hold the gold charge/plat edge combo myself, even thoguh it's an extra $15, I've more than made up for it simply by virtue of allowing me to double dip on many of the statement credit offers.

Also, it's very clear they're pushing for people to take up the plat edge. It would not surprise me if they up the annual fee next year on it to fill the gaps of the the gold and plat reserve.

Just a mention on the bonus sign up points for existing customers. I transferred across from a Velocity Escape AMEX card to the Platinum Edge a few months ago and after spending the required amount got the 10k MR sign on bonus. As stated in T&C's you're not eligible but I don't think their systems are that great at picking this up.

I just received my card. Does anyone know how to change the PIN for the supplementary card? It doesn't appear in my online account and when I try to register it, it says it is already registered...
