When I bought liquor from Liqourland attached to a Coles stores, it shows up as "Liquorland" in my statement and I got one point per dollar on my Platinum Edge card. And I only get one point per dollar from Dan Murphy's, First Choice and IGA.

But last night I bought liquor from the liquor shop attached to a Woolworths store, and it showed up as groceries from Woolworths in my statement, so I got three points per dollar.

So, all things price wise being equal, it looks like I'll be going to Woolworths for alcohol - as one gets triple the points compared to the others.
Cheers,
Renato

You can buy a Coles gift card @ 3pts/$ and then use that at Liquorland.

Or you can buy Wish Cards from Groupon at -7.5% and funnel them through Cash Rewards and get 9% rebate at Dan's which is ALWAYS cheaper than any other bricks and mortar store. Points have value yes - but no point throwing good hard $$$s down the drain for a few measily extra points.

Thanks. I see your point for general usage - but I'm a bargain hunter.

Thus when walking through Liquorland and I see Lagavulin Single malt scotch going for $80 a bottle, Ardberg Single Malt Scotch going for $65 a bottle, single malt three piece sampler packs reduced from $80 to $56 and Tuaca liqueur going for just $20, and quite a few Bols liqueurs going for $15 - and other specials reminiscent of living in the 90s - I'm not going to go home and buy Coles vouchers hoping that the bottles are still there next time I visit. On my last visit to Liquorland I picked up 10 four bottle sampler packs of Bailey's Irish cream varieties, reduced from $15 to $6 each. And last night I picked up a bottle of Wild Turkey Spiced Bourbon reduced from $50 to $35.

I don't find bargains at Dan Murphy's often, unless I come across the clearance of an item (last one being Ponche Soto liquour for $24) which they don't advertise in their specials. I was having more luck at First Choice with their buy two get one free deals, but they seem to have stopped that recently.

Just remembered, I also got two $15 cashbacks from using my Amex cards at Liquorland recently, plus a $20 cashback for using my old Amex card at Dan Murphy's last year - which I would have foregone with the coupons.
Cheers,
Renato

I seem to be missing your point. Your original OP was about maximising points earn, but now you're saying you prefer saving money and would disregard any points earn?

No, that all things be equal - like equal bargains at Coles and Woolworths - I'll get three times more points at Woolworths.

Isn't Dan's 2 points per $ ?
It's only one point on Platinum Edge. 2 points applies only to petrol - which is pretty good value at the moment :- price is under $1.30 a litre, and one also gets 4 Velocity Points a litre at BP till 31 July..

Is changing the price in-store only, considered advertsing?

I would say so. As long as it's not a membership based store like Costco. You may be asked to prove it so just grab a picture with your phone.

Dans is 3ppd if you do it by buying a wish gift card plus 5% off if you buy via Entertainment Book plus 4% plus by using cashrewards.

Strange thing is I thought at the time 'Don't bother responding to this post'!

Some people just don't want any help?

I am afraid I really don't understand. Yes, thanks for the information on vouchers - I will look into it.

But I thought it would be interesting for people with Platinum Edge cards who are walking around with hands in their pockets, without a voucher in sight, who might randomly walk into to a liquor store to see what's cooking out of idle curiosity or while waiting fo their wives, for them to know they can get three points per dollar from one store versus one point per dollar in other stores.

Renato

Just for the record, I get 2 points per $ at Dan Murphy's on my Amex Platinum Edge, and because I am Local Champion, an additional 1 bonus point. So, for me, 3pts/$.

YMMV.

Some people always have a voucher bought at at least a 5% discount.
