AMEX rejection

thank you, so perhaps random then. may just reapply on the weekend then.
It doesn't really matter what day they set your statement date, it's very easy to just call CS and request a different date.

Don't need a reason, or just say I get paid once a month. In fact, I've found this the case with every bank I've dealt with.

So was rejected in middle of Feb 24, no credit card applications since then (Amex or any other). had closed a couple cards late 23. Last Amex card was during Covid

Just applied now and was instantly approved, didn't even need to upload any docs or confirm current cards. I did just cancel my Citi Prestige a couple of weeks ago but prob not updated on file yet.

So i guess it is possible to get approved after being denied for most likely churning.

also used my wife's referral so 275k points for me and 75k for her.

well done - just tried my wife's for application over weekend - perfect score and no cards (closed latitude in Oct) and got the 5-10 days pending so think it will be a no - have been trying since Sep last year
Might have to try again and use my referral code and see how that goes

Can I ask how many credit card you had prior to applying for this one?

I had 2 cards although closed my Citi Prestige about 2 weeks ago so may not have updated on credit file yet. Citi was 2 years old (cancelled just before annual fee hit) and the other was a 28 degrees which is like 10 years old.

No applications since maybe mid 2023, no credit card closures since late 2023 other than the prestige above. prior i was churning pretty much all available cards possible.

I was lucky i had the Citi prestige pay all tap and my wife was approved for the platinum card to at least continue earning.

Anyone have a US Amex card and checked the "Please check this box if you have another American Express Card issued from any country and you consent to us viewing your account history." box? I wonder if it will hurt or help.

Data point :
I have been unable to get increased credit limit recently as a retiree.
With the DSC offer, fares were to be ~$500 over my limit.
Whilst in the booking process, I called Amex and the agent said hit "pay now" and see what happens.
Payment was accepted, E-tickets emailed within minutes.
I then immediately transferred $$ to bring my Amex balance back to zero.
In the meantime, received an email from Amex stating I had exceeded my credit limit and "future transactions may be declined".
Happy to have not had to split the payments or booking.

Usually there is a small hidden "extra" that you can go beyond limit.

Also declined for the Platinum Charge the other day with the only explanation being “based wholly or partly on information in your credit file”. Would be interested to clarify this with them and potentially clarify any data if incorrect. Is the consensus that it’s a waste of time? Has anyone been successful in having them reconsider the rejection?

Gave this another crack and same result. Didn’t bother curtailing my churning after the last rejection so not really surprised. Decided to apply for the Velocity Business Card and was instantly approved so a nice fat sign up bonus coming anyway. 😂

I got approved for the Qantas Ultimate card after ticking the "I have another countries Amex card" box during application. I also let Amex assign the credit limit rather than selecting the minimum. I'm a serial churners too, 4 card in the last 6 months.

Full timeline:

Applied and then uploaded docs

Received an email the next morning asking for ID docs. Called the general line and, after checking with the applications team, was told that they'd call me if they actually needed anything.

Next morning I again received the ID doc email and noticed they had a specific number listed, so I called that. They verified my license over the phone (photo+selfie). I then received another email asking for payslip info.

Uploaded that info late at night and then received an approval text the following morning.

Also as a note I uploaded an interest statement from my bank, even though they only list Notice of Assessment or an account letter as acceptable proof of income for interest.

Hi
I am getting rejected by AMEX also. Not sure if it's because of churning CC.
I have previously held the 2 cards from AMEX in 2022. closed early Jan 2023. It was a low rate card and a cash back one (no longer provided).
I recently applied for Velocity Card with AMEX. I got the 5-10 business day email and then I see a letter in my mailbox stating that they have rejected me due to information on my Credit File.
My Credit Score is Very good with no defaults.
I did go through potentially 4 cards in last one year. On an average it's 4-6 months between opening and closing each card.
Any insight would be great. It's not like they are doing any favor.. we are paying Annual fee for the entire year.

I'd guess that if you've churned through four cards in the past 12 months they've picked you as a churner and denied you (like they seem to be doing to lots of us) based on that.
