Amex to launch Centurion card

One of these days I'll ring up AMEX and see what they'll do for me card-wise (been a member since 89). My Gold card is getting rather tatty..had it since 89 and as Mrs LW has a supplementary one, that'll really make her day to have a brand new card...

I'm not so luck. My only relationship with AMEX is a corporate card with an average spend of only about $1000/month although it has been closer to $3000/month this year.

new to the board, stumbled across it somehow -

was reading bout the centaurian amex's and thought i should put my two cents in -

received a centaurian offer in roughly october 2004, accepted (got my work to pay for the subsciption fee) and to tell the truth, it isnt that flash - i have had a platiunum amex previously for bout 3 years (when it was still quite rare in Australia) which i thought was not that flash either - Centaurian give you free access to Priority Pass which is company that has Airport Lounge's around the world (like qantas club) and free travel insurance (just like platinum) and thats about all i know of - all it does is make every bl$$dy shop attendent ask "oh - i havent seen a black amex before - isnt it nice"

and that bout it - if there are any other advantages that i do not know about, can people pls fill me in, because i am sure i am not taking full advantage of the black card.

I've had a Centurion Card since May 04.

Since then I've not paid for any travel insurance for myself or my wife (4 os trips).

I've been to Hawaii J class for $4500 for 2 tickets, Mauritius F class for $5500 for 2 tickets, LAX F class for $9000 for 2 tickets, and Fiji J class $2000 for 2 tickets.

I've had a plumber out on a sunday an AMEX paid the 'call out' rate and I've had lunch at the China Club in HKK booking it (via an AMEX paid reverse charges 'phone call) the night before.

So far, I think it's been well worth the $2800 annual fee.

Fortunately no.... I've not had a serious accident with which to test the insurance (nor do I want one!)

Metro Air - Which Airlines were these companion deals with? I am especially interested in the LAX and Hawaii trips. What major airlines can you use with the Card?

Also when you paid your annual fee, was there a reduction in the fee, waiver or the normal $2800 (or whatever it is).

Centurion - No Website Presence

Why does AMEX fail to even mention the existence of Centurion on their website. Surely if they put the information up, such as benefits, more people would know about it, consider applying and forking out the $2000+ p.a. I know i would look at it if i knew what the benefits were.

Centurion is strictly by initiation only. I've asked about it not being on the web and apparently to keep it discreet they won't be putting it up any time soon. I received a invitation for the card and even that had no details besides sign here if you'd like the card and then can review the benefits before choosing to activate your membership.

My Centurion card is issued overseas, it's a suppli card only. I normally reside in Sydney though. I called the Australian Cennturion call centre today but they refused to provide to me general information on what sort of lifestyle benefits I could use while I am in Sydney.

It's quite disappointing, really! I thought many Centurion Cardholders are not based in one city/ country all the time, yet the benefits they provide are so "card-issuing country based"

May be some of you Aussie Centurion members can tell me what sort of special previleage you are enjoying locally... Like private club recipricoal entry, special event or the like?

With AMEX Platinum or Centurion you are always required to contact your issue of country for anything. It's a AMEX policy. Might seem unfair but it seems to be the way they do things.

With AMEX Platinum or Centurion you are always required to contact your issue of country for anything. It's a AMEX policy. Might seem unfair but it seems to be the way they do things.

As a Centurion member (and possibly Plat) they accept your reverse charges call back to SYD for anything, so it's not an issue - they will organise anything through their local office if needed or if they can't do it.

FYI, with Centurion, you earn 1.5 points for ever $1 up to $500K. After that, it reverts to 1 point per $1.

There is no cap on how much you can earn.
