Amex Travel Credit - covid implication

I wanted to change the flight I had booked through Amex but didn't want to wear the change fee. Luckily Qantas changed the time from 16.20 to 6.00am and I don't do flights that early so I was able to change it on the Qantas website (worked this out after being on hold to Amex travel for over an hour)

I abandoned the travel credit, and cancelled the card. Can't see any use for it any time soon, and don't see any value in renewing.
Used my travel credit towards the cost of a pair of R.M Williams boots. Really glad the option was extended to the Qantas Store

My two travel credits ($450 and $400) were due to expire at the end of March. I didn't even think of calling AMEX to find out if they could be extended!
Used the $450 against a nice hotel in Margaret River for a weekend away with Mrs Tallfont at the beginning of March :) Lots of good food and wine and the first time out of Perth in twelve months!
Used the $400 against a QF PER-HBA return in June with Mrs Tallfont for a five day getaway :) If COVID-19 stuffs it all up the accommodation on IHG points is refundable up until the day before and I guess Qantas will just give a travel credit for the flights.

I tried calling in to see whether I can extend the travel credit by a week, they said it isn't possible even for a day, guess they are quite tough on approving new travel credit extensions.

Does anyone have experience in being forced to cancel a booking due to Covid lockdown?
I used a $200 travel credit and points to make up the difference (no cash) for a hotel in Norfolk Island.
Hotel is refundable up to 72 hours before the travel date.
We have every intention of making the trip which is after Easter long weekend as long as we are allowed to fly.

Not sure about the points, but when I used a travel credit and paid the difference from my card for a hotel booking I got both refunded when I needed to cancel. The travel credit even came back with a new expiry date, one year from the date of the refund.

Amex travel pages are running......SO SLOOOOOW.....thousands trying to use credit at the last moment?

Would be grateful if someone could summarise what else you can use tge travel credit for apart from flights. Thanks

Hotels and rental cars if it's a normal AmEx travel credit.
If the credit is from one the QF branded cards that you can normally only spend on QF flights, you can also spend it at the Qantas Store.

To be honest not sure which type. It is the Qantas Ultimate which I applied through Amex. If it is the reward store option how do you go about this! Thanks in advance.

Yep, that's definitely the Qantas type credit. It must be spent on Qantas flights booked through AmEx travel or at the Qantas Store (looking around at some of the threads I've noticed that Qantas Wines and Qantas hotels are also an option). How to do it though I'm not sure, I don't have one of those cards, I'm sure someone who does will be along to help shortly though.

The AMEX Qantas Ultimate offered an extension to the time you could use your travel credit for, mine was extended from Sept. 2020 to March 2021. This extended offer was via an email. To claim it you needed to login to your AMEX account, check the AMEX offers and save the offer to your card. Once it has been added then it would be automatically refunded after you have made an eligible transaction (at Qantas Hotels, Qantas Wine or at the Qantas Rewards Store).
If yours has not been extended then not sure.

How are you guys even getting through to Amex? The travel section chat online button doesn't show. And I was on hold for over an hour and gave up.

I am sure you have tried it already, but can you book it online? If you are looking to change your booking or do something that the online website doesn't support, then it might be best to contact them next month as they would be flooded with phone calls from the combined impact of BNE lockdown and the expiry of Amex credit tomorrow.

It's for a hotel booking next week. Given the long weekend, I want to know what my options are if we are prevented from using this hotel in Norfolk Island which was booked with $200 travel credit and Amex points. The only reason we would not go is if the lockdown is extended but by the time we find out the office will be closed and it will be Good Friday next day.

Why not just contact the hotel directly and ask them to change date? Faster and bypassing the double handling?
I emailed them but they haven't replied yet. Their communication isn't the best. I don't know for sure if we have to change anything. If the lockdown finishes as planned, we will do the trip. I am just trying to see what the options are.

I was on hold for 2 hours today with Amex and no answer. I was watching a movie and had the annoying hold music turned up so I could hear a human. No humans.
