Hi all,

Has anyone taken advantage of this deal? If so, I have a few questions (I've searched the forum, but I'm either inept or there's nothing overly recent):

  • Are there any restrictions on destinations (or origins) for the offer? For example, if it's on VA metal to LA, does the origin need to be Sydney or Brisbane?
  • What sort of discounts (percentage wise) have people experienced?
  • Are any Status Credits or Velocity Points awarded?

Haven't used the offer, but when I had the card I just couldn't make the numbers work. I think you can only book a fully flexible business ticket and am sure you get sc's and points (for the price, you'd want to!). Destinations are LA and Abu Dhabi, from whichever port VA serves directly.

Much better value in buying business saver or upgrading with points if you have status.

I enquired with Amex Travel just recently about this one. The consultant I spoke to also suggested I was likely to be better off booking direct with VA without their promo as the promo is only on the higher fare buckets.

Also at present they can't book past 31 May 2015 as they don't have fares loaded past then.

They quoted me $5760 pp + fuel+ taxes on the companion fare for Business Perth-NYC, Return. (via SYD or BNE and LAX with code share on Virgin America)

That actually sounds fairly decent... SYD/MEL/BNE–NYC usually runs up to $8/9k.
