So we may have an opportunity to attend an event in Amsterdam in two months. Commence panic scrambling to see if it's doable!

Any tips for cheap flights appreciated. We've done Amsterdam before, very briefly, so it'll be nice to go back. Maybe squeeze in a quick trip to Paris to visit a friend.

Ah! There's so little time!

Try using Google Flights or similar to search from your home port to "Europe" and see what it throws up. Trains are quick and easy if flights to AMS are too dear.

Also SIN/KUL-CDG tends to be a sweet spot price wise for flights, if looking for J. Easy to get from CDG to AMS, then and also ticks the box of wanting to visit Paris.

See if you can get to SIN, BKK, MNL or CGK cheaply - points or LCC (day flight should be OK), then price your flight to Europe from there. ME airlines out of CGK would be a good bet (eg Oman Air).

Garuda flies direct CGK-AMS 3 times a week

Vietnam Airlines flies to several European ports from Ho Chi Minh city

And if sitting on points and flying before the April school holidays (blackout periods) Id say chances of picking up award seats should be good, given its not high season and airlines seems to do more late releases of extra seats these days rather than predictable releases 11 months out as in past.

Thanks all, not enough points for this trip alas, and we will be flying Y because MrD is getting his paid for (another amazing offer related to his flight sim hobby).
But thank you for suggestions of airports in SEA to aim for. I'll have a good research session to come up with some options.

Then the next step is seeing if work will let us take time off... Haha.

Will he sign on as Extra Captain? ;)
Seriously though, is he a professional gamer?

Breaking the journey in seperate tickets via Asia is probably not worth the effort (and extra costs) in whY then.

Google Flights, or better still - ITA matrix might find something useful if you can get close to AMS and/or depart from somewhere “close”. The open jaw and “nearby” cities, and flexible dates search function can reveal some pearls!

MrD did some soul searching and weighed up this trip vs leave from work which is tricky as he has none thanks to our recent Japan trip plus an extended shutdown over January, so would have to take LWOP. He's saying let's not do this one. Fair enough. He may change his mind again, so I'm staying on standby in any case.

I do know that he might get invited to a different show later in the year, so maybe we'll do that instead. I don't know. The later show is in the US, so we'll see.

But whatever happens, I appreciate all the advice everyone gave. It was useful nonetheless, and I have learned some tips for Europe travel in the future. :)

What is hubbys LSL balance like tho.
No need to say on here, but if he has been with the company for a long time, and hasnt taken any, might pay to get some paid out.
Unless that was the one he took for Dec/part Jan time off.
