Very late to get to this excellent trip report. Thanks for sharing. I have to admit at this point in my life, with two small children (and very grateful for them too!), I'd kill to run out of passport pages. Plenty of time, though I'm thinking I need to formalise my bucket list plan and start working a little harder on it! I have some catching up to do with the likes of you. Congratulations and thanks for the inspiration!

And that’s all folks! Thanks for following

Hi, very late to this, but thinking of a similar trip in 2019. I wonder though, whats the point of on the go travel? vs booking direct with africa travel co who operate the bus themselves? Im guessing you didn't know prior to booking with on the go its not their bus? any advantage using the booking agent vs direct that you see?

Well it’s the same service same people so if you can get a cheaper price with Africa Travel Co book directly with them as not advantage or disadvantage I could see. While the truck (they don’t call it a bus, even have shirts saying that) has both bands on it the guide mostly talks about On The Go but really no difference.

If two people are going On The Go often have 2 for 1 specials so you can wait for that special. I personally got a small discount for being a return customer.

There is really no real reason to book too early, if you keep an eye on the booking status, you can afford to wait for a special or discount.

Wow a 2 for 1 special would be awesome!
africa travel co just offered a 20% off for both of us on base price. 2 for 1 would be far better....

thanks for the info!

The dates and itinerary lined up with what I wanted to do. I’d also had a good prior experience with OTG Tours which I felt was important for such a long overland camping trip. Additionally I found some good reviews as well.

Lots of highlights in this trip make sure you visit the Gorillas in Uganda! No regrets from me.

Btw my standard adventure tour company is G Adventures. I ran into them a number of times and they seemed fine but mostly 20s group whereas OTG Tour groups I had were mostly 20s but we had some 40s (me), 50s, 60s and one fit 70 year old so more diverse (but majority young people).

Hi coyote, looks like we may be booking this soon, we've done a stack of research to date and is looking promising. I hope you don't mind a couple of questions more?
How do you go with laundry? I backpacked for 1 yr in South america and laundry was easy to do, and with modern hiking clothing meaning 2 or 3 days use wasnt horrible for clothes between washes. However how i see it, laundry on this trip would only be possible im zanzibar, vic falls and maybe lake malawi. Do you need to account for this when packing?

Did you take some sort of ground mat as well as a sleeping bag?

How good of a sleeping bag did you take?

Thanks, your review spurred us on to research more and get this trip under way!

Just replied to your private message. In short laundry does need to be managed a bit but can be fine if you can be covered for 5-7 days, guide should highlight opportunities during welcome meeting for camping trips, ground mat will be provided.

See PM for sleeping bag information.

When are you going and what tour?

Africa is awesome.

I'm on in swakpomund on this trip right now! 1 week left to cape town. It's been amazing (except for a lazy, lying, selfish american woman along for the full 56 days). Aloise and Duncan are driver and cook as you had. Thanks for the blog, its helped a heap with knowing what we are in for each day! Mostly the same, a few changes here and there.
