Sure, but because of your extreme edge case, doesn't infer an EV can't work for most of the population. That might be representative of about .1% of car journeys, and many of us never drive that far.
Most of the time I don't even mention I have an EV, certainly not to anyone I know professionally, but of the few people I have in my personal life the best part is how the conversation goes.
No mention of EV: Oh yeah, great trip. I usually stop at the big whatever and let the kids stretch their legs. Great fish and chip place half way back on the side of the highway
EV: Oh yeah, I make that 7 hour trip twice a month, no stops, havent got time for that. Wouldn't work for me at all.
Truth is, I don't care, I don't sell these things. But if you try to tell me something I drive around every day is not viable, I'll call bullshit.
However.....
I do end up talking to tons of people about EVs. People I've never met before. When I go over to Bendigo and charge across the road from the Stockland Mall there, or if I go to my local shopping centre and charge for free, or recently at the charger at ovens on the way to Bright (which is an awesome location, not as nice as Berry but close) and have a coffee from the coffee van while it charges, 100% of the time I'll have curious members of the public come over.
I can't tell you how many times I've thought, I'll plug into the supercharger, run into the shops and back - and never got past the carpark. But they are really cool, I don't mind talking about my car and showing people how it works, and honestly the people who come over for a look are already motivated into seeing and understanding the tech and so they are very rarely combative, so I really enjoy it.
I'm in tech and these are perfect for a techies car. The below is the sort of visualisation I get from my car with a project called TeslaMate. It's automatic over 4G because all Teslas are 4G connected. There's a lot of cool stuff that the Tesla can do from Full Self Driving to data like this that I can't get from my non-EV. So I could turn the question around and say.... what ICE car can do this?
And then there's stuff like updates, over the air. Some of which have increased range, speed or just added new features. Which non-EV gives me this?
