Scored my first ever op-up Syd-Mel on QF9.

Chose the flight to get to use the F lounge. Had a Red-e-ticket and a linked booking to a friend with no status. At the F counter was informed I had been upgraded. Then noticing a linked booking upgraded friend as well. Ended up in 3E and 3F in the F cabin.

Wonders will never cease.

Such a shame it wasn't all the way only the shorty domestic leg.
Enjoyed i hope :)

Still it's more than i've ever had, so i'm envious even of your short op-up!

I got one of these last year on the domestic leg of an int flight in the opposite direction, only from a cheap y ticket to J. Both myself and Mrs batesy were happy with this and our visit to the Flounge. Well done on what I would call a double upgrade as you skipped J and went straight to F

Sometimes its just luck i guess, i have managed a lot in the past few years even though the status i the airline thought i had was low, eg my AA no status with JAL, or at the time my silver/solg QFF with CX/BA.

I can think of 4 or 5 op-ups in the last 18 months.

A few free upgrades for me.... one was a genuine Op-up the others were through the generosity of the Chairman's Lounge.

Op-Up could not have been for a shorter leg! SYD-CBR!!!!

zPrior to there being a direct CBR-PER flight, I used to fly CBR-<somewhere>-PER, whith somewhere being random combinations of ADL,MEL and SYD. Most of the op-ups I have ever had were CBR-MEL or CBR-SYD :)

Would be nice to get an Op-Up. l've never had anything like that before. oh well, l guess l have better chance of wining lotto.

dragonman, congratulations as they can indeed be rare to come by. I think it's been about 4 years, or around 400 flights since I last scored one (and that time I had two in one weekend - inbound and outbound!!).

Don't get too despondent, it can happen. Not long ago, I remember complaining on a thread that I had never had an op-up, but then this year I have had 1 in April J to F on QF9 Mel-Sin, 2 domestic Y to J between Bne and Mel, and then on Saturday had J to F on QF10 Sin-Mel :D. Now I may not get another for quite a while, but at least I know it can happen.

Well it involved being completely naked, except for the feathers and chicken blood ;).

Seriously though, I suspect my accruing over 3000 SCs this membership year may have had something to do with it. I'm not sure if the QF staff at the QP/FLounge/gates have access to this level of information, or just the actual status. If they see the level of SCs this may influence who gets the op-up.

Right, done. Im assuming you meant chicken feathers?;)

I would assume they wouldnt have that info due to the privacy act etc. but i'm sure that your profile would have been flagged after accruing those sorts of numbers.

You have just proven that the unbelievable can happen! It will keep all of us, who haven't had your day of glory, wishing! Hope you enjoyed it to the full.

For someone with little luck I have had the pleasure of 7 op-ups in the last 5 years. I never expect to get upgraded but the feeling is great when you see that new boarding pass or in the case of my last op-up mid flight to be escorted to a seat in business class.

Our trip has been 12 months in the planning - given me lots of pleasure to plan and many nights of dreaming of the FA asking us politely to 'bring your onboard luggage and follow me'!!!

Usally you get a new boarding pass when going onto the aircraft. Machine beeps and rejects your boarding pass. With luck you get a nicer coloured boaring pass :)
(3 op-up's in over 20 years on QF for me, all in the 4 years I was QF Plat, but sadly heading for QF bronze now)

My husband travels monthly and just seems to manage nicely to stay on bronze. Qantas giveth and Qantas taketh away!

Note: Your upgrade from Tokyo to Perth has been declined.

However... I've got a J boarding pass (which might I add, is blue not black?), and the points have been deducted; so no up-op for me :(

An upgrade is just as good though, so I'll take that! :D

I have been op-up'ed onboard twice... Both times i had preselected the bassinet position, row 23 on an 330 and whatever row it was on a BA 747 with WT+ (i was in whY)...

So on the QF flight turns out a family turns up... sitting not in bassinet row.... the crew move them there and me to J :)
On the BA flight i am sitting next to a woman who has baby traveling by herself, FA mentions something to me about child and i say, oh no, not my baby, and next thing you know she gives the woman a bit more space and me a WT+ seat (slept the whole flight like a baby !, or like babys should)

All other upgrades have been at check-in, never had a rejected BP at the gate yet.
