An op-up at last

My husband travels monthly and just seems to manage nicely to stay on bronze. Qantas giveth and Qantas taketh away!
I don't mean to be rude but you are taking this upgrade thing way too seriously. Just enjoy the trip, in the class of the tickets purchased, that you have been planning for 12 months and if you happen to get an upgrade then that will be fantastic. If not then it is not the end of the world.

As someone else mentioned they have had top status and have not had a free upgrade in over 400 flights. Why would you expect any different? This is a time to be realistic not hopeful....

In the last two years and over 170 flights I have been op-upped a total of four times, three times I was travelling with SWMBO (who appreciated the extra space ...).

It may be a total of 10 times over the last 10 years and 800+ flights.

Perhaps you should take her along with you more often...;)

What is a SWMBO? Is it a new acronym for POS/COS??
(Passenger/Customer of Size)

OT - Interestingly, I saw a POS being dealt with by DJ staff in Melbourne the other day! I tried to get closer to hear, basically they were explaining to him that although today their aircraft was not full and they could put an empty seat next to him, he would have to purchase 2 seats in the future. They were explaining it quite well IMHO. If a person is impacting on another person's personal space then that is not acceptable. Good one them.

Sorry for the OT, but I'd never seen this happen before!

She Who Must Be Obeyed (Guess you never watced Rumpole :) )

Um... whatever Rumpole is - obviously not!

Apologies Serfty, obviously I did not mean in any way to infer that your SWMBO was a POS!

Rumpole of the Bailey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even the wikipedia page mentioned in the first few lines SWMBO :) i remember the series (showing my age here ! but i was young)

re POS, Interesting that my company has an all whY travel policy for most people, and they wanted one guy to travel and he had to argue very hard to fly business given his size. And i could not agree more in this case, but amazing he even had to discuss it with the company ! and they wanted him to go, he was also happy not to go.

As a not small person i am happy for my status to see me most of the time with a seat beside me free, or be flying J/F.

A bit more O/T, i have been visiting Japan for 10 years now, and this is one country which from now on may as well forget the high density configs in planes they used to use domesticly, if they keep going the way they are then it will cause some big problems in the near future for a lot of travelers.

Never watched Rumpole. Not every man has to go through life being miserable and I have been lucky in that I have never needed to obey a woman. Well almost. Do mothers count?

Got an op-up tonight CNS-BNE ! Flight was full, paid M class & travelling by myself ... Called 2 hours before departure had already been upgraded. School holidays probably had something to do with it. First domestic op-up in many years ...

Gotta love it when it happens :p:p:p

Congratulations!

I call it like being bitten by a Hen's tooth - it doesn't happen often but when it does - you feel no pain!

I know op-ups are as rare as hen's teeth but there must be an awful lot of hens around. ;)

I can remember 3 op-ups in my life time.

Once was as a nobody on Ansett from Y - Domestic F. (I am sure they called in F way back in the day)

The second was as a PS. I was flying BNE-SYD-PER. The quickcheck machine pumped out a J pass for SYD-PER. I was booked in N. Very happy.

The third was this year HKG-PER, Full Y - J. Very happy as my upgrade request had been denied. http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com...-happy-12288.html?highlight=qantas+made+happy

We had a group of three all op-up HKG-MEL about two years ago.

For me this year it has been 2 CX op-ups from business to first, 2 QF medium-long haul op-ups from WHY to business class, one of them bypassing premium economy, and 2 QF short haul domestic op-ups.

I think that makes a total of 10 lifetime op-ups, including 4 medium-long haul. Funny enough 2 of them came on a return trip SYD-BKK while I was still a QF Silver....
