More of the outskirts of the CBD.

But some idiots don't care. This idiot drove through that street above, no trouble with his beast but the wave created drove more water into the buildings.

Then a typical collection of electric scooters. This firm Neuron has a good name. It descibes a lack of those cells in many of the riders.

I now tried to find somewhere for lunch. the majority of restaurants and takeaways were closed. Nothing really appealed to me. So I sat down for a breather. got a good view of the Sofitel which we used to frequent a lot when it was the Hilton.

Whilst sitting mrsdrron rang and said the highway was open and she was on her way.So Up I got and back to the hotel. Took a couple of pics on the way.

On arrival back at the HIE I stopped at the desk and told them i would be checking out soon but that I would pay for that night which I had booked as an insurance policy. then up to the room and packed up the few things I had out.
The view from the room just before I left. Amazing that not far away flood waters were causing major devastation.

Back down to checkout and the HIE front desk staff again excelled. I was told that they had given me a late check out to 1530 and there was no payment required for that night. Truly the staff here could not have been any better.
The room was adequate, the shower very good and the included breakfast was much better than expected.

Mrsdrron arrived soon after I checked out. you could not see any evidence of the flooded parts of the highway going back.

So that concludes my enforced stay in Brisvegas. I had forgotten that there are some wonderful parts of the City. I only hope that all the businesses affected by these floods can recover quickly though the evidence is it will be a long time for some and sadly the end of the line for others.

To all those here that have been affected by floods i wish you all the best for the future and hope your lives will finally get back to some sort of normality.

I just want to add that I only found out the Bruce Highway was going to open at 12 by listening to the local radio station. Both the Qld Dept Main Roads and the RACQ websites had no mention of re-opening. And I was checking them hourly !!
