ANA partnership with Virgin Australia

Just activated the offer as I have a J flight SYD-HND-SYD in mid September. Originally put in my Krisflyer number when I booked (already had ~90K points before starting to accrue Velocity points via CC churning) and can't change via the ANA website. Will have to remember to do it at check in instead.

My J fare is P class which normally only earns 70% (both Krisflyer and Velocity) so this is a nice little bump.

I have a feeling it's going to be a no but has anyone had any luck getting VA to check their luggage through to a NH flight which is booked separately?

VA have a firm policy to not through check luggage on seperate tickets. That being said many airports in Asia have the ability to fetch and retag luggage for you when you use the transfer desk. I'm guessing you're flying CNS-HND and then onward to another international flight, if so it wouldn't hurt to ask at the transfer desk.

Thank you for the quick reply!

Unfortunately I’m transiting in SYD (MEL - SYD - HND) and did put quite a sizeable gap between the flights, although they are on the same day. I suppose I’ll just have to collect my bags, store them somewhere and see SYD for a few hours…

Storing bags at the airport will be a pain in the bum.
Reason, you MEL - SYD flight will arr into T2, if you store your bags there (not sure if there are still lockers at T2 these days tho), then you have to go back to T2 and pick bags up, and then get the outside bus to T1.
OR on arr bring your bags to T1, store them there, go to city by train ($$$$ with the gate fee), and then back to T1 for the night dep).
Guess you could sit at T1s coffee spot, and wait for the night flight, if its the 21.45 flight out to HND.
If its the 12.xx flight out, then not so bad, but if you on that one, hopefully your flight from MEL - SYD is the first one at 6am.

Thanks for the reply. I get into SYD at 2:30 pm and the HND flight is the 8:55 pm one. So yeah I’ll probably see if I can store bags at T1 and then head to the city.

General query for now. Is it easy to book ANA using Velocity points from Sydney Tokyo to New York or the reverse please?

In Y, it should be straightforward, in J less so due to ANA releasing awards at ~355 days out but VA only making said awards available at 330 days meaning many awards have already been snapped up by participants in other programs.

VA get really good availability at about 2 weeks out too if you are flexible. SYD-HND and return has J seats available nearly every very day for close in

Even during the winter peak? Thinking of just gambling without a backup Y ticket for my trip in mid Jan 25. Dates will be slightly flexible except I’ll need 2x J and it won’t bankrupt me to book Y last minute if the plan fall through 😬

Can VA call centre book these at 355?

There is a lot of capacity to Japan at the moment and cabins are not exactly full. Unless capacity is pulled back I wouldn’t expect much to change.

Overall VA is currently one of the most value programs with easier access to NH. So much so there was talks about how to get VA points from NA.

January can be tricky. ANA flights themselves aren't cheap during that period so that might be an indication already of how busy it could be.

Guess that moving forward, this NH and VA partnership would be the best way, after VA stops its CNS - HND flight, without having to go back via SIN with SQ.

Just an update for anyone else who availed themselves of the double points offer flying ANA between September 1 and December 31. I flew on Monday and double points plus the normal status were credited today.
I flew Tuesday. All.points plus double arrived Friday.

Does the velocity platinum priority boarding benefit only apply to domestic flights on ANA metal? I flew choice Syd-Hnd VA7402 (ANA metal), got group 5 boarding (last group). Velocity membership details was on the booking and boarding pass, etc. I called Velocity and they informed me the platinum priority boarding benefit does not apply to VA/ANA international flights, only domestic. Am I being told porkie pies?
