ANA trip report 787 business class Tokyo to seattle.....finally

Just a brief history before I get into this
I was supposed to fly this route last year but the grounding of the 787 fleet prevented it.
Ended up flying the 777-300ER to SFO instead which was one of the most enjoyable flights I have had. So it should be good to compare the two.

I am writing the start of this review in the main ANA lounge. Check in was extremely fast and easy. No waiting at all....however there was a 10 person deep line for first class check in. I Had previously selected seat 1k and was happy to see that nothing had changed.

The lounge is very busy right now, about 4:30pm. The showers however had no line up and were large
Very good selection of Japanese drinks and other spirits
The food was a bit sparce but they do have a noodle bar with 8 variants and is quick and quite tasty.

Well flight done and I have to say given the choice I would take the 777-300er.
My reasons for this:
1. I prefer the old style windows with a shade over the new electronic style.
2. I know the 787 is claimed to be quiter but I did not notice any difference at all....if anything a little more cabin noise where I was sitting.
3. I think the bed might be slightly shorter....maybe by an inch or 2. I just could not get comfortable and I am not super tall. 187cm. Definately did not have this issue on the 777.

ok that's the bad. The good the cabin crew were very friendly and efficient. Food and drink was always available. I did not get photos of the menu as it is on the ANA website. The screen is large, touchscreen and easy to watch. When it seated position I found the chair very comfortable. One thing missing,which the 777 has, is a small packing compartment for things like your ipad etc etc.

Some photos of the food. I ordered the Japanese menu as I had it last year and thought it was excellent. This year it was just average. I think on my return trip I will choose the western menu. It looked much nicer.

So that's it for this report. Overall I would say I still think ANA is one of my favourite airlines to fly on. But as stated next time I will try to make sure I am on the 777 over the 787. It's probably all in my head but I am sure the beds were longer and that makes a huge difference when trying to sleep

Thanks. interesting. Coupla questions:

* That grill to the side of the TV - is that an air inlet or outlet?

* Does it have any blowing air vents over the seat?

* Do the electronic window shades cut out light completely?

* How is the 'elbow room' when lying down? That window side arm rest looks as though it stays in the way.

* Is the 777 seat/bed the same overall design (except for maybe the bed being longer) ?

Thanks for the TR! The lounge looks good.
Not very impressed by the seat pitch as I'm 190cm. I would still love to try ANA one day, probably their B777 J product.
