Status Credits and Points earned will pool but not sectors flown.

So if you and your spouse fly SYD>SIN>SYD, that's 2 sectors per person flown. You will only be credited with the actual sectors you have flown (ie, 2 sectors) and wont be credited for your spouses sectors.

That's my experience, the sectors are not combined for the purpose of Status levels

Just read guy selling 45K Velocity points for $550......comments please!

I tend to value Velocity points against a return to Europe in J with EY.

250k points plus about $200 in taxes is roughly equivalent to a $7k ticket, so 45k points for $550 ain't too bad...

Even valued against a return trip in Y it's just about worth doing...

You pay 7K return on EY? I wouldn't pay that for them and when I have flown them has been more like 6K...
What time of year are you flying?

I hope there will be some news shortly about the link up with BP petrol stations.

Has there been any recent announcements ?

Truth be told, I've never paid to fly in J, always done on points. But the point of the post was to show an approximation of how I value Velocity points, and whether one uses $6k or $7k, the points on sale were reasonable value, IMO.
As usual, YMMV....

Excellent, my question has been answered:

Complimentary Elite Membership: IHG Priority Club Rewards or Hilton HHonors

Hooray!

When I hit VA SG I chose the H Honours membership, never heard any more nor received a card or letter or email

Have millions of Velocity points and have stayed a Red member and that has worked out ok. The A330 business class product for coast to coast travel has been enjoyable.

There are a few dedicated threads on complimentary Hhonors Gold/Diamond membership. You may need to follow up as per comments in those threads.

Had a need to fly to Sydney from Perth twice in the next 3 months and Qantas had nothing on our flying dates in business. Hello Velocity!

Does anyone know if it is possible to swap WP perks after WP renewal? I've been VA WP for 3 years now and wish to switch from IHG Plat perk (which has been enhanced due to a higher tier being introduced) to HH Diamond as my hotel perk. Has anyone done this?

Btw, I'm mid cycle and just reached SC required for WP renewal in May... Do I have to wait until the end of cycle?

You can't even do it at the end of your membership year - it's a one-off benefit - you won't even keep the IHG Platinum status once it expires (unless you have retained it by actually staying a gazillion times at IHG properties).

However, I got a Status Match to HH Diamond, so you could try that. I think you just email HH and request it.

I'm guessing there may be confusion here because IHG tend to allow platinum status to drift on for a few years (at least they did with mine .. three years from one HH SM IIRC). With the exception of the few recent unexplained discrepancies reported here, HH usually appear to be pretty proactive at dropping unearned status fairly promptly.

Yes, my IHG Platinum status (activated in late 2014) is still going - I've heard that you get the remainder of the calendar year when it's activated (2014 in my case) plus two full calendar years (2015 and 2016 in my case) and then a short period at the start of the next year while they complete status reviews. So I'm assuming mine will expire shortly, as will OzEire's if he/she has also had it since 2014, which I gather is the case.

Anyway, I believe it is accurate to say that Velocity Platinum status does not entitle you to continuous IHG Platinum/HH Diamond status - you get it once for whatever period of time IHG/HH deem fit, and then it's over. Even when my wife fell from Velocity Platinum to Gold and then got back to Platinum again, she did not get another round of hotel status, as it still says she used this benefit up when she was Platinum the first time.

If I buy an Economy ticket using a travel agent ( I have $200 credit with AMEX), can i then use my VFF points to upgrade to Business?

Shouldn't be a problem. Just get the TA to include your FF No. when they book it for you.
