I booked QF773 MEL-PER which happens to be a 787 operating a domestic service. I figured they're probably make Y+ seating available to WPs. Looking on EF this is the seat map for Y

On both the QF website and app, this is what I get when I try select a seat. Ie, not able to select anything

I called up QF. I'm told all of the Y+ cabin is blocked. Also rows 40 and 41. I can pay $17 to sit in row 42 :o. I question why I'd need to pay for a standard seat. Could not get an answer other than computer says cough up.

What do you all make of this?

As per QF platinum benefits - fine print

As the flight number is QF773, a domestic flight within the range of flight numbers and is operated by QF not QLink
The catch is that the "complimentary period" ends 3hrs prior to the flight - Im assuming you are well before the 3hr cutoff.

Another Qantas fail - but I am assuming that you are still WP and you did use your FF number in the booking....

Listen up old fella....back in your day.... :p

Yes but was your seat request within 3 hrs prior to the flight?

WP is the new NB

Typo. I meant it's in a few weeks time.

Here's the real irony. I reached out to QF via Facebook messenger before I called. After a couple of hours without a response I called which is detailed in my first post.

Fast forward to dinner tonight and I get a response back on Facebook messenger. They just wanted to confirm my name and have put me in 21J.

No idea what the call centre was on about today. Based on the accent I was speaking to an Australian too. 🤷‍♂️

I called yesterday to get a J seat released and was pleased to get an Australian accent too. The bot immediately said yes but then there was a very long and involved process of 'switching systems', on hold, then 'doing it a different way'.

I guess even Hobart (I assume) need to get some experience too :) . Good if they are recruiting.

She gave me the PNR and said booking should be in the app immediately. I didn't check then, but later, & noticed that no booking in app and no points deducted.

This morning, still nothing so I've called, probably not Hobart but the chap is hopefully forcing the ticket issue. And yes, bingo, there it is.

So Hobart may be a bit wobbly until everyone gets up to speed.

Had a similar experience a few weeks back when using a GV on a multi-city booking. The agent mentioned the new system gives them less flexibility on some tasks. She was able to switch to the old system and get it done.

Ah, yes, a new system was mentioned somewhere else, thanks.

I'm confused...EF is showing a 787 seatmap and the app version is a 737...no?

Correct. It's 787 flight. Showed as much when booking which is why I selected it. I had a feeling Y+ seats would be used for Y and WP would get access. EF confirmed.

So really, a nice little bonus for a domestic flight. Not sure if this is a one off or a regular thing with QF9 MEL-PER on the 787 being cancelled.

The other option is someone loaded it in wrong and its not scheduled as a 787

But then why the different (ie: what looks like a 737 seat map) seat map configuration in the second image in your post that you sourced from the app?

Or perhaps the other way around. It was originally a 737 schedule and was changed to a 787 and the configuration change on the app hadn't passed through at the time but was visible on EF.

What date?. So maybe other fan see if it is indeed a 737 or 787.
I'd be surprised to see a 787 on anything that isn't QF9. Are the domestic gates at MEL even setup for 787s?

Looks like an IT Glitch in the app, plus the usual incompetent call centre telling you that you have to pay. I doubt Qantas actually intend to charge WPs for seats on these flights, but they're not doing themselves any favours with their call centre being unable to troubleshoot this simple issue.
