For the record the Dash 8 was QF2210 and its engines were probably on a higher throttle setting than normal as it looks like it was below the nominal glidepath - quite a shallow approach in fact.

Also for the record, 34L had more of its length adjacent to water than land, 2.5Km of the 3.9Km is in the bay, and A3 is around the half way point, its also higher in the middle, to the point that aircraft holding at one end cannot see a crossing aircraft at the other end.

That would be correct, also giving the impression that things didnt look right.

Almost as though he was trying to hit the ground the second the navigational lights ended right at the entry point of the runway (prior to where the thick white strips are painted).

I consider the runway to be totally adjacent to water from A4/L as there is solid land to one side. So that would only leave a third of the runway with water on both sides.

;)

It's probably a good thing the take off was aborted ~ of the way along the runway.

I guess of the way into it may have had a different result.

When I started working in the tower the water was 10m south of the underpass on both sides of 16, and it was not 16R or 34L at that stage, the bay was altered in 93/94 to what it is today which predates your experience as a KSA worker (and walker) somewhat. The majority of 16/34 has been in the bay since 1962 I believe (I was not in the tower then , or even born )

Just left at 20:14. I've been on this flight a number of times, but not on the A330. Family will be on the flight next Friday.
I have been on this route as well operated by a 767. When did Qantas schedule A330s for this route and does this explain seeing more international config 767s on domestic duties?

Fruit bats and 767's seem to have issues on consecutive nights around the 18th March though
