Any Ideas on Routes Sydney - Madrid Sep 25

Starting to look at a September trip to Madrid from Sydney for next year.

I need to do this on points and my points are getting low. So will have to be economy.
Not much showing up on the Qantas website.

Any thoughts on imaginative routes that might have seats?

Ealier in the year we are going to UK via Dehli and Paris for example.

But would rather try to get more direct routes to Madrid if possible and not that keen on going via UK unless we have to.
(higher airport costs and general mayhem)

Any idea most appreciated.

Could go to Barcelona and train from there..........

Choose anywhere in Australia to Asia, and then onwards from there. You’d have choices on Cathay, Finnair, Japan Airlines, royal jordanian. Even KLM-Air France and Emirates.

Economy shouldn’t be a problem. Yes, London can be a pain to transit, but the advantage of a single plane to London is a big one, no mucking around. Cathay might also appeal with a single transfer in Hong Kong

Y award space should be fairly reasonable. JL to HND and AY from there may be available if not wanting to fly QF/BA/EK.

One stop options via a hub in Asia (Seoul, Hong Kong, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha on that hubs local airline, or via Tokyo Narita connecting to Iberia)
Also on QF/IB via Rome or Paris (or London).
There are a handful of one stop options via the Americas (LA, Dallas, New York, Santiago)
Otherwise, there are 2 stop connections via almost every major city in Europe.

Sorry, typo! Should have said single ‘plane’.

But probably Cathay might suit you better, just a single transfer in Hong Kong, which is really easy.

I'll probably be leaving from Paris or Madrid, but if it was London, it's easy to jump on a cheap flight to somewhere else....like Paris or Madrid.

Mainly the destination. Madrid, not London.
And that was Biz Class this is Economy, if that makes any difference to route choice/airlines.

That other trip also ended up being 3 stops.

Would like to do it with only 1 or 2 stops if possible for this one.

I wonder why Qantas pushes them over other partner airlines?
Costs them less in the points/cash swap maybe?

Qantas don't push one partner over another on the multi-city search. What you see is what's available to book. Cathay Pacific are very limited in what they release to partners atm.

True. I was looking at Etihad, Qatar and Emirates as paid tickets on another thread.
If I can't find flights using QF points.
I would prefer to use QF points than pay, but not easy finding any seats.
