So you bought 2 one way tickets? Is that much cheaper then buying 2 returns?
I was looking at prices on MH & SQ. No OW award available on MH but price in J is not bad. SQ J cost a lot more but can use 90K USDM to Male.
Ideally, I would rather fly there with SQ and return with MH as you did.

Not cheaper head to head, but with no need to pay for a night in MLE or stuff about with speedboats, it paid for itself. I paid for sale Y seats on SQ and J seats MLE-KUL-SIN (actually cheaper than MLE-KUL). SQ has a night flight too, if you want to fly *A.

Seaplane transfers finish after sunset, so you can leave the Conrad around 5pm and do a MLE tour for a few hours.

The J return fare on MH is pretty tempting, but the night in MLE just isn't worth it I feel.
