Any thoughts re Jetstar "business" to Bali?

Sorry I was looking at the Garuda mention not the meet and great suggestion :-(

You could also consider QF A330 SYD-CGK and then an 80 minute flight with Garuda to DPS.

QF J class is generally only 50% full re:CGK.

To me the service is not the issue.

safety for any airline is not something that should be the subject of flippant comments. I assumed the reference was only to service when the comment 'still recovering' was made!

that would only leave virgin for direct flights to Bali... have not jetstar crews complain they are left exhausted after such long shifts... 15 or 16 hours?

It seems to me that you have taken my comments incorrectly. They were certainly not intended to be flippant with regard to safety. In fact you do not know me very well to even suggest that.

I'll be a little more blunt.

Based upon experience and knowledge, I have issues with the safety systems and culture at Garuda. Maybe it has improved in more recent years but I'm not willing to take the risk.

Tired cabin crews are nothing by comparison.

Given Garuda are now allowed to fly to Europe, they must have improved something!

Flown it once due to all the Y seats being full and we needed to be in Bali that day - only 6 of us in the cabin. Personally, I wouldn't waste my own cash on it (this flight was on the client's dime) - it was ok, but certainly *not* business class standard IMO. (Maybe, just maybe scraped into the Y+ arena of other airlines?)

Forget what you've come to expect from flying J, and you'll probably be ok; if you're expecting QF/CX/SG/PG etc J service - don't waste your time. . . . .

Garuda - first and last time I flew was on the same trip - they got out with a hammer to bang on the flaps just before we took off. Thankfully it didn't fix the problem, and we were put onto their next flight. On the plus side - they found the problem on the tarmac, on the down side - they thought a hammer was going to fix it. . . . .:shock:

That's very typical Indonesian. (Although I'm sure other cultures have their own weird and wonderful ways of "fixing" things too).

In Ireland we generally weld it, hammer it, take an angle grinder to it, duct tape it, super glue it, or if all else fails, forget about it and head to the pub!

I wouldn't have thought lay flat beds are required to Bali.

Just go......if service is still an issue, call SQ!

Good Lord!

When was this if I may ask? With Garuda due to join Skyteam in 2012 I have a mind to review my previous decision to never use them. Past failures though haunt the decision and your anecdotal experience above makes me jittery.

Not to make you even more jittery, but it was December 2008 just 5 days before Christmas. Remember it well, as it took nearly 12 months, and a final threat to the TA we used, to get the information needed to claim the ridiculous DJ flight fare as the "problem" caused me to miss my PER-ADL connection.

I've seen their recent ads - very slick, but after that experience, (and their prior crash) I won't be flying with them again any time soon.
