Any tips for booking business class from Australia to Japan?

I'm wanting to use points for a ski trip next year in Jan/Feb. I'm wanting to fly Business class (or first if I find the unicorn) and am pretty open with dates, but I'm finding very little availability and nothing that seems enticing. The AA site seems to only give me routings on Fiji Airways. What I'm looking for are direct flights to Japan coming from either Brisbane (preferred), Sydney or Melbourne. I don't mind open jaws.

Any tips?

Jan is going to be a struggle. Well past the release of those seats and its peak season.

February you might have a bit more luck.

I've been checking once a week or so for the last month and haven't seen anything, Jan or Feb. I'm surprised as previous years I've not struggled so much to find something.

Havne't seen seats.aero, will give it a look.

Way too late. Need to check multiple times a day, 2 months ago.

I know many many east coast based people who have points seats on QF and OW carriers that time of year. JAL has been releasing 2J and 4 Y regularly.
QF has also had sporadic seats open.
It might be a long shot and I know you want direct but worth looking at Singapore to Japan. They sometimes have flights from there. You can reposition to Singapore with scoot or try award booking with velocity. The great thing about AA is you can cancel without any cancellation fee so if you do get a direct ticket, you can cancel at anytime.

yes I noticed there's a chunk of reward seats with JAL

with the change from 787 to 777, it hasn't added F seats into reward availability

My go to is SYD-HND on ANA, always heaps available. I never book that far out though.

For a one stop you could do MEL-BKK-TYO on TG.

BNE-TPE-JAPAN with EVA used to be available but I haven't seen it lately.

Are you sure about the F seats. I got F booked for September! Maybe they are going to have another equipment change.

Currently there’s no F REWARD seats on offer. The 787 switch to 777 begins 1 June so yeah

Sounds like you snared 1 earlier on when they were available

I’m doing this exact routing in October also coming back KIX-TPE with a few days in Taipei. Can’t wait to try CI. Heard great things.

Seats.aero is amazing. Saves so much time. Worth the subscription.

You will enjoy the CI product, I am sure

Just saw some seats for business class on qantas.
MEL-NRT,
Japan airlines
28/2/25
You should be able to book with AA as they are part of the oneworld alliance

I think CX and QF have started blocking AA for rewards availability, some months both QF and CX members can see bunch of rewards seats available, but switch to AA, it shows nothing.
