The catering is cheap. Snacks and alcohol after meal service costs. But overall decent carrier.
Is that in Y?
My last few years worth of Australia-Europe travel have all been on Finnair, with QF between PER and HKG or NRT, although now SIN is also an option.
I always really enjoy the service and the longhaul onboard product in Y is great, except for the extra costs for alcohol after meal service. They used to have a self-serve snack bar in Y on the A340s but I believe they've disappeared now. The only QF longhaul Y hard product that is on par or better is the A380, AY's beats the standard QF longhaul Y offering in my opinion.
Transiting at HEL is great, as long as it isn't too long. I've done 45 minute Asia-Europe connections there easily and comfortably, but when you have to wait more than 90 minutes it's no good. Although, I've never had lounge access there, so I'm commenting only from a pure Y customer perspective.

Certainly a good option for Europe but they don't have a J class cabin for intra-Europe so if you are flying J you won't be from HEL to your destination. I would fly them again.![]()
