Looking at a flight from Budapest to Lisbon in June this year on Iberia in J. I’m aware that their idea of business class is going to be very different to mine. Does anyone have any experience with Iberia?

I’m concerned about the checked luggage limit of one bag of 23 kg. We’re going to be in Europe for about eight weeks and 23 kg is probably going to be well and truly exceeded!

Yes, their business will be standard Eurobusiness, most likely on an A320. Others will likely have in-seat experience of the soft product.

Their calculator implies that business class get 2 x 23kg included. You can pay more to get each one up to 32 kg max.

I was supposed to head the other way last year. IB J for LIS-MAD-CAI.

LIS-MAD was IB Regional / Air Nostrum in a CRJ-1000. It was late. Crew didn’t seem to care. Missed the connection in MAD and that really screwed my (overly complex 😁) other flights back to Aus.

Got invol rerouted after a night in MAD (IB paid for the hotel) and then had eurobusiness on an IB mainline A321 MAD-FCO the next day. Nothing exciting about that product.

IB have refused (by simply ignoring anything I have put to them) to acknowledge EU261 compensation due.

Also, the IB check in staff at LIS would not allow sporting equipment as my second bag, or my oneworld sapphire (QF SG) extra luggage allowance and charged me to check it in.

Many negatives with the experience.

Positives:
At least they organised the hotel and transfer to/from in MAD.
Lounge in MAD was okay.

I would only fly IB if there weren’t other decent options.

I've flown Iberia within Europe. It was fine, but nothing more. You get fed at least.

An allowance of 1x 23kg checked baggage sounds too low for J, unless I'm missing something.

I've had a similar experience with Iberia and EU261 after a missed connection left me stuck in MAD overnight earlier this year. They just stonewall you. As my first flight on that ticket departed from Portugal, I've submitted a formal complaint to the Portuguese aviation regulator (but am not holding my breath for a fast resolution).
