Hey everyone,

Anyone having issues calling the Virgin Australia phone number, 136789.

I call it and receive the robotic welcome to virgin Australia message, then the call goes dead silent and drops out within 2 minutes, it doesn’t get up to the stage asking select 1 for domestic select 2 for international.

I have tried at various times of the day with the same results.

Yes my phone works, yes I can call literally anyone else or any other airline or business, just for some strange reason, this issue was persists.

I got on last night. Had to call because both the website and app couldn't process a payment.

You may have some sort of incompatibility with you carrier and whomever provided the VA 13number and/or their phone system, did you try +61 7 3119 7089 which would be the endpoint the 13 service is pointing to? I have seen all sorts of weirdness with 13 numbers, often related to poor setup or porting.

Yes I did try the 07 number above again with the same issues,

The only number that I used that seemed to work was the 1800 number that virgin gives out to customers affected by delayed flights by email, that number worked with no issues.

As per original post, I have no other issues with any other 13 numbers…

Sounds like an issue on their end then with their call routing system. Inbound numbers which is what the industry calls 13 and 1300 are managed by a number of different platforms and while you say you have not had issues with 13 numbers in the past, there was the possibility you just hadn’t called the numbers using the same platform Virgin use, taking that out of the equation by dialling the 07 number helped.

I've experienced similar a few times recently, but managed to get through mostly. Although, after the welcome message it would spend a minute just ringing and ringing while it tried connect to the selection prompts. On one call, it failed and dropped out after two minutes but when I called back it connected to the prompts after a few rings.

So it's definitely not just you, I'd say it's a problem on their end.
