Anyone know how bad the UAE disruptions are?

Whats up with that seems like the whole Middle East just disappeared in one night. Or the monsters have invaded Maple Street (twilight zone reference)
Yep nearly got washed out into the Persian Gulf!

If the flights are going I think you will be fine - basically the floods in Dubai are the cause of the problems not the Israel-Iran fisticuffs. Here in Cairo they have raised an eyebrow at Israel being silly enough to want to continue it but it is business as usual.

Friends were in transit on Wed at Dxb, bound for SJJ....arrived 5 hours late after circling airport for 2 hours. Flight fo SJJ cancelled and they finally got a flight to Zag instead 7 hours ago (flight delayed 8 hours!!) after spending > 30 hours on the ground in Dxb with no hotel available ....they said it was chaos at Dxb!
Sorry totally missed your post @kpc - I hate trying to use my phone for internet browsing!

That certainly sounds like the definition of chaos at DXB! Am sure glad that I missed that mess! Glad your friends were finally able to make it out of there!

OK well a quick update on my situation - phoned the Qantas call centre again this afternoon and the really helpful lady decided to make some decisions and make new bookings for me, so I am now flying out of Cairo on Sunday evening instead of Friday evening with a short 1 hour 35 minute transit in Dubai onto a flight direct to Sydney (no via SIN and then QF2), and she has also rebooked my connections through Melbourne to Tassie.

Accomodation wise I was told just to book it and keep receipts and then claim when I get home, so I am now slumming it on the 10th floor of the Ramses Hilton for the next two nights, with a 3pm late checkout organised for Sunday. The view from the hotel room isn't too shabby -

You've done pretty well considering how messed up the EK network has become - I'm looking at a few unplanned days in Cairo by the look of it.
Absolutely. I feel for everyone trying to get through DXB - that backlog is going to take ages to clear. Good luck, hope you're underway soon.

I'm at CHC atm, having checked-in for QF134 - as I did, I saw that the inbound EK 412 from SYD is showing 3 hours late. Lots of frazzled looking people waiting for EK check-in to open. Even if I had been able to get myself on that flight, I wouldn't have made the last flight to BNE anyway. Probably a lesson in there for me about picking 5th freedom flights.

That view seems remarkable for two reasons - the lack of traffic on the October bridge, and the clarity of the air.
I suspect that being a Friday might have played a part in both of those - its certainly not as clear today!

Once I get home I'm going to be busy - need to claim ORC so as I retain Gold on April 30, then claim for my accom etc.

Our CEO was trapped in Spain for a couple of days, Emirates ended up booking them back on Qantas via London to get them back faster! Rain looked incredible…

I was half thinking that I might be doing CAI-LHR on BA then QF2 home... or CAI-JNB then QF home that way!

Good to hear you’re almost home @RSD! Don’t let the bad weather dissuade you from travelling with any of the ME3 again.
