Re: The totally off-topic thread

My father, being an accountant for 30 years has been using handheld calculators with the +/- GST ability for as long as I can remember.

Given that the GST was instigated in the year 2000, that sounds just about right ;) :p   (I'm assuming your ability to remember in general is on par with your ability to remember how to spell :p )

I don't think I've seen a software based one that has the same function. I'll ask.

You'd think that there'd be at least financial calculators out there that can add or subtract tax (the amount of tax can be adjusted using the settings in the program). After all, the US has several taxes and they are all not at "flat" rates (of course, some people might get used to typing * 1.095 or even * 1.0625 all the time...)

You sir, are correct. I think there was some sporting thing in Sydney in 2000?

There are programs that add on GST, but not simple calculators. Lots of record keeping software such as MYOB have the function, but are a little over the top for someone who just wants a GST button.

Not a million but some days quite a few - and it's not only me who does them - we have a number of staff members who do them and accuracy is paramount - I cannot afford miscalculations by doing them mentally - it's just a facility we use on physical calculators and I thought one would be readily available.

Look, get over the gibes about doing it mentally and miscalculations. I didn't offer that as a suggestion for you to use, I merely observed that adding GST is a simple calculation.

Frankly, if the option offered by Mal does not suit, it seems to me the next best is to use win calc and type *1.1, if you want to declutter your desk.

Thank you for your contribution medhead - but I was seeking a specific solution that being a downloadable desktop GST calculator - any other suggestion / solution is really not what I seek.

Actually, I think you are after a downloadable desktop calculator with GST calculation functionality :) (Pedantic yes, but there are huge differences )

Yes that is what I am after.

I guessing a suggestion of an iPhone app (I am sure there are Android versions that are much better out there) "GST Calculator" that does exactly what you need wouldn't work.

ksthommo thanks for trying but again it aint what I want.

Windows has a Calulator built in - but no GST functionality.

What I am after is a full blown downloadable desktop calculator with GST functionality as per the physical version i posted a pic of earlier.

Not interested in excel spreadshhets / versions / mental calculations or whatever at all - but thanks guys for trying.

Cruiser elite - I understand your question.

And there are many calculators that have a GST+ and GST- button. Or TAX+ and TAX- button.

Honestly - i spend a lot of my day doing invoicing and just use a standard big button calc (or win calc) and find *1.1 or /1.1 to be simple, easy, precise (to whatever decimal I choose).

Bottom line - I do not believe what you seek exists. (only in hard physical calculators).

But I am perplexed as to why it's such a requirement..??

IMHO - if 1.1 multiplied or divided is such a show stopper for you. And if a single +/- key is a mandatory requirement - then just stick with your physical calculator.
