Anyone on here go to trade shows and factories in China?

Ah OK - I'm sure that I will get used to it all. I'm going to need a driver for a few days in the Cangzhou area - best just to find one through the hotel? Any idea what a driver should roughly charge per day?
It might be hard to get from Beijing to Cangzhou by personal driver. I don't think the hotel can do this, but they would like to help you. The better way is to get the train to Cangzhou, and then find a driver. You can by a train ticket by Alipay.

Cheers - that sounds like a good plan. At the moment I'm thinking that I will get a return ticket into Beijing instead of into Beijing and out of Shanghai or vice versa - still working on that one but it seems like it will be simpler - might have to check to see if there is a difference in QF SC earn from HKG-PVG and HKG-PEK on Cathay :D

You could use the bullet train service when you travel to Shanghai.

AMEX was even more unreliable (with the exception of hotels). WeChat Pay and AliPay were most commonly used wherever I went.
I've never been to China before but am probably going to be doing a trip there in August to visit some factories to suss out some products to import and also visit a tradeshow. Just wondering if anyone has any tips etc? Will be the Shanghai / Hebai area

Hopefully my final question before I take off for China - I'm getting conflicting information from the www on whether the standard Australian three pin plug is a match for Chinese electrical outlets - some say yes, some say something about the earth pin doesn't match or something like that? Anyone able to clarify? Will only be staying in reasonable sized cities - Shanghai, Jinan, and Cangzhou.

For the mobile phone charger has two legs, sometimes it is not fully fit, for three legs, like your computer charger, it is no problem at all. If you really worried, go to Woolies to buy "Jackson 2 Outlet Usb Charger With Mains Outlet Each" at half price ($11.5) will be great.

Traditionally (old days) China has used the NA 2 flat but in todays world, you'll find something thats very similar to the Australian plug. It doesn't 100% a fit especially if your plug has a coating layer on it or a tinybit bent but usually you can make it work.

Many hotels however also have at least one universal power plugs (take note rest of the world - granted my Hilton here in NYC has 2 universal sockets).

If you have a NA style plug/converter you can bring that along as insurance.

OK Cheers - that should do the trick then.

A quick update for those that have helped me with this trip - so far so good, the heat in Shanghai at the moment means being soaked in sweat whenever you step outside - its damn unpleasant!

Apart from that no real problems, am getting used to everything and figuring out how to get around etc. Have got Alipay and Didi working pretty well. The one thing that I never gave the slightest thought to until I stepped into a restaurant here for the first time is that chopsticks are the cutlery of choice instead of knife and fork! :D Using chopsticks... lets just say opportunity for improvement!
