My flight was cancelled so I made my way home by other means. amazing that some companies can and some companies can't fly.
1. should Virgin be flying planes that are clearly suitable for the conditions in bali?
2. should Virgin be offering credit to be used in 12 mths for people who have been cancelled or their flight cancelled on outbound or return? or should they be refunding the money paid when they could clearly not supply the service.
thoughts?

Volcanoes can erupt for many, many years.
Just go somewhere else is what I am thinking unless you have zero commitments.
If you are on a tight time schedule to get back to school, university or work you could have a problem.

There is already a thread on this - http://www.australianfrequentflyer....virgin-jetstar-cancel-bali-flights-71829.html

Whilst other airlines may be flying in those conditions, it doesn't mean that the risk isn't there so obviously the conditions aren't entirely suitable. However I agree that if VA (or JQ or any other airline for that matter) in this situation do not take you to and from DPS, that the refund should be in cash instead of the travel bank.

I can't answer about the refund policy...but as far as other airlines flying it was reported that Garuda and Air Asia are permitted to fly over military zones and thus could continue some flights.
We are booked for 4-13 December so hoping things will calm down by then, but have travel insurance and am foot loose and fancy free, so any changes doesn't affect me as much as others.

Win, Win !
I was booked Virgin to fly return Perth-Bali business on 15th Nov -20 Nov. (Business on V to Bali is surprisingly reasonable).
with the Volcano business and it looking dodgy I went to the Virgin website to see what was the go.

I read the notification about a week ago very carefully and Virgin were being very flexible. You could get your money back, put your fare into travel bank or rebook to go to other locations listed in their notice for the same money and no change fees as your fare to Bali departing within 30 days of your original booking.

Maybe it is still there.

So I am now off from Perth to Samoa (always wanted to go there), Business for 3 times the original fare value for my birthday just before Xmas. Thank you Virgin.

I was reading Facebook posts over the weekend and there is a lot of frustration, especially as people see Jetstar/other airlines flying multiple flights. I said to my husband that if that was us, I would book anything I could and/or go via Singapore if I had to then deal with insurance/biting the cost later on.

But then again, as long as I have wifi, I can work and hubby would happily continue to go diving. I can just imagine the daily email to work, Day #8 and still stuck here on this god forsaken island, drinking coughtails and processing work via the pool.

Some of the posts Ive read, people who packed extra medication are starting to run out.
