The doors of my apartment will always be open to any AFF'er in YVR! It will be the closest thing to a QF Pub YVR will be getting anytime soon ;)

Hmmm, was just in Vancouver in July but had to leave early to come back so only spent about a day there, nice place (although i imagine it gets a bit cold) so will be going back there at some point...

Apologies for that error, I know he use to talk of Mojave and did the repo flights so just assumed thats where he went with them. Maybe RedRoo could one day get an AFF group on one of the positioning flights - maybe the next RR powered 763 (If only......) I would very happily chip in towards the cost of the fuel bill!

If Red Roo could organise something like this it would be amazing, i know a very slim chance of it, but you can only hope... :)

Wow. Just out of interest if you don't mind me asking How much do you think all up the trip cost?
Slightly O/T, but be prepared to keep forking out the cash!

- Price of flights to/from the originating/ending points (not usually the same, in my case one was out of JFK and then returning from LAX, and the other was originating from LAX and ending in ORD).
- Price of the TATL/International Portion (The OWMD was JFK-LHR-DFW and the SMD4 was LAX-FRA-ZRH-ORD). They do 'group' pricing in Y, but it's typically around $1k in Y. I did F on the AA TATL OWMD which was a J ticket with an 'auction' to F as we had the entire F cabin to LHR (and most of it on the way back but the flight went u/s and we all had to scramble back to the USA via any means possible to pickup the start of OWMD!).
- Price of buying raffle tickets on the MegaDo. They're really just massive fundraising events (OWMD was Susan G Komen for the cure breast cancer charity, and SMD4 was Livestrong).
- Price of other stuff (meals are included as are the transfers during the do, but hotels are extra and it's generally much much better to stay at the group hotel, although not necessarily cheaper than corporate rates)
- Other stuff i've forgotten about.

I did a conservative estimate and OWMD would have cost me around $10k, but the cost of flights to/from the US was not an issue for me (as I simply tacked work on the end for a few weeks meaning I didn't have to pay for flights). The least you're going to get away with is around $1300 for the megado seat and allow $150-200 per night for the hotels (typically 3-4 hotels). $2100 at lowest cost plus connecting seats.

I didn't do SMD5 which wound up last week due to it being a pretty boring program. The rumours of OWMD2 coming next year are strong, and when that's announced, i'll be queueing up with my credit card if AA are involved again!

Not as bad as expected. I think certainly if dates and times work out, I would be in for OWMD next year. (Keeping in mind I will be in YVR so getting to or from anywhere in N. America won't be an expensive issue)

That's a large chunk of the cost averted :)

It still never ceases to amaze me how expensive flying US-Canada can be though. AC seem to make sure the prices stay nice and high so UA and AA simply follow suit (Many years ago getting from SFO to YYZ cost around $650 in coach and that was the cheapest I could get 3 or so months out).

I know for AC service too it always surprises me. The best pricing for ex Canada is always ex YYC I generally find. But with the move to YVR I will be using SEA-TAC an awful lot me thinks.
