I have sent an email to the MEL lounge manager and pointed her to this thread.

She is normally very responsive so I will keep you informed of any outcome.

How interesting that this might be the first instance that AFF is being referred to as a basis of firing someone..... :-|

Hope they ringbark the correct person - public stoning is not my thing:!::(

Without wishing to implicate anyone, she wasn't male. In any event it is about everyone having a clear understanding of the program and stated benefits - and my not wanting to feel uncomfortable on being challenged to what I thought was a legitimate use of the facilities.

Straitman, I will of course be interested in the response - hope it doesn't lead to further program "enhancements".

The person that markis10 and a few others of us experienced was certainly male.

so what exactly is the arrivals access policy for a non-status J pax?

Interesting! I thought it was just me, and I had held off sending in a letter ti Virgin, but there is one particular male at Melbourne Lounge who finds it very hard to smile! I am in the lounge there once or twice a week, and he is the only one on the team there who simply does not ever smile.

Sorry .. Slight OT, back to discussion about ATA now! Have had no problems with same day use of Lounge when using the new automated access.

I have spoken to the MEL lounge manager several times about this issue and she is keen to identify and retrain anyone who is not doing it right and believes she knows who we are talking about.

Let us see if the problem disappears.

Does anyone know if they are still allowing platinum to guest someone who is flying into the lounge? - i.e platinum member not flying but taking a non-member to the airport who is flying. (Yes I know its not in the rules but am wondering if anyone has tried it)

My wife, non status was taking a flight. We approached the Melbourne lounge counter and asked. I presented my card, and we were both allowed access.

It also worked on the return side. Her return flight was delayed by an hour. I asked at the counter, just inside to the left of the entry, and I was politely waved in with a bit of a wink.

I dont recall any card swiping or checking. I enjoyed this and really felt part of a club by being able to make use of the facility even though there regularly, not flying on that day.

I thanked him on the way out...thanks mr loungeman for turning a blind eye...enjoyed virgin years ago, still enjoythem now!

....sent from the place closest to the airport I just arrived at.

Any Golds had luck trying to accompany a J passenger? Dropping the missus at the airport on Thur in Adelaide and was thinking of asking if they would let me in as well...

So I lobbed up at the lounge with my J travelling wife and asked if there was any chance I could head into the lounge with our daughter even though ATA has finished. The Angel on the desk said of course, you're welcome to come into the lounge as your guest is travelling on DJ. Was pleasantly surprised..

As a plat I've walked into the lounge a few time recently without providing a boarding pass to show that I've just come off a flight. They seem fairly relaxed on the entry at the moment - which I think is the right attitude as it keeps frequent travellers happy.
