I really don't have a problem with award availability. I'm booking at 353 or 330 and flexible with days and connections and I'm getting good results. Slightly OT, sorry.

I think availability depends on the route , how indirect a route you want to fly , flexibility and very importantly , how many award seats are you asking for .

Try and get 2 business class award seats to from South Africa on Qantas , don't even hold your breath because it isn't going to happen!

My points (50k each) were swept for my and my wife's Blacks today after having been there for weeks in my case and for about a week in my wife case. Today is the normal sweep date for our Blacks. A small number of normal points were also swept, and this shows as a separate transaction.

Hi.

I have an ANZ rewards card, an ANZ rewards Black card and an ANZ frequent flyer card which I signed up for several months ago. I am still waiting for my points to credit to each. When I check the statements there is no mention of any large pending points.

When you say that the points have been there for weeks where could you see that they were pending? And when you say they were 'swept' do you mean that they were credited and were no longer pending?

Thanks Peter

Yes and Yes.

ie One day 50,000 appeared when I checked online at ANZ on the CC section and clicked on Rewards.

Several weeks later on my statement date the points appeared on my QFF account and yes ANZ back to zero for the Black Card.

I was at a BI Conference last week and this was mentioned by one of the speakers and again as I posted he just said "were starting to use" which can of course mean many things including just assessing what can be done. However to be precise he did not say Australian banks, but just banks and as he was from a global company he may not have meant Australian Banks.

My key point however is that vast amounts of data now exist on all of us, and that more sophisticated tools are now meaning that companies can more and more data mine it in all sorts of ways, and also that the pace of change and capability in what can be done is accelerating. That data can be from many disparate sources, and the new tools have the capability of tying together what can seem unrelated.

Data collected today, and data collected years ago, will be able to be used in more powerful ways as time goes on. A bit like in DNA testing where samples from the past can now be used to identify people.

In terms of this thread looking for churners would be a fairly simple exercise in future for banks. Assessing the success of a campaign may be based on many indicators. One such could be how the cards are used, how long retained etc. Assessing this is now much easier than it used to be. Whether the marketers choose to look, and act, is of course a different question. I have noted that the ANZ Promo Mark 2 has for example already changed from bonus points per new account to, per person. They have also moved to awarding points after the full 4 months rather than quickly.

Yes, well some overseas jurisdictions don't have as strong legislation as Oz.

Totally agree there is a fair bit of data out there, but the banks in particular have a whole section in the Privacy Act which makes some of these practices very difficult for them. You can certainly look at your own data though and make decisions based on that!

I *think* this can happen if you make a purchase (let's say $50 for sake of ease), the points credit to your Qantas account and then you refund something for $50. It will put you in a negative 50 points balance that will be adjusted on your next earn (which happened to be the 50K bonus in this case).

Or... ANZ have stuffed something up. Now that I think about it, that's more likely.

Does anyone know if the 50k signup bonus is still available? I click the links and it says 25,000 points offer. Gutted!

Ok thanks... Hmm I might not take the chance then.... I have a feeling it may not be fee free...

Go the 25k and the 50k just to be sure... :)

I got the 50k from my black a few months back, one of my basic cards show the 50,000 sitting in there waiting for the sweep i guess and the 2nd basic card which took a bit longer to do the $1,500 minimum spend is showing nothing at the moment... Hopefully within a month I have the 50k from the first basic swept and the 2nd basic showing them sitting in there, then I'll start progressively shutting down the two basics to leave room for maybe one of the 25k offers and maybe the 50k offer if it eventuates or the 16 months 0% interest offer...
