Any number of reasons and it was one of the options on the poll. I wasn't being critical. I probably should have voted for the DONE4 ex Asia option but felt that the option I voted for was more appropriate.

No. I visited Capetown briefly in 1972 and I would love to visit again.

In my opinion I think it is a lot of effort to spend time and money to get to a place just to have a RTW ticket issued. Yes something ex Asia or preferably closer to point of origin would be a lot less effort.

No. Why?

One RTW trying using all sectors was more than enough for me. Never again. Next time I will limit the number of airports I visit and spend more time on the ground during holiday.

After my op-up yesterday I can now say I have sampled the so-called "better CX F product". Yes it is nice but I can safely say that I have not missed out on much all this time. It is still just a seat slightly more comfortable than a WHY seat, food nothing special and like all others on the aircraft still stuck in a metal tube in the sky with nowhere to go until the aircraft lands.

John,

I actually had intended some sights in South Africa, not really somewhere i would be in a big hurry to go out of my way to visit since its a long way out of the way but since it seemed like a good chance to do it, Victoria Falls, Kruger national park, and J'burg and Capetown.

The LONE5 was a joke, i know how much you like to experiment with LCC's and i thought you may have just for a moment thought it was better the save the money and fly in whY.

The trip would be split into 3 segments, that is the reason i was starting out from SA back to Asia, the hard way to go around the world but better for my timming. or maybe 4 segments, SA -> SIN, a Japan trip, AU and then the USA/Europe, some additional flights to be purchased/redeemed in the mix.

Just for price comparison...
@ 31/3/08
Indonesia DONE4 USD 6,779 (AUD 7,410)
Indonesia AONE4 USD 9,370 (AUD 10,250)
Phillipines DONE4 USD 7,022 (AUD 7,670)
Ukraine DONE4 USD 6,500 (AUD 7,100)
South Africa DONE4 ZAR 39,950 (AUD 5,390)
South Africa DONE5 ZAR 45,300 (AUD 6,110)
South Africa AONE5 ZAR 66,000 (AUD 8,900)

Random dates... SIN-CGK LH SGD 315
SIN-MNL Cebu Pacific Air SGD 280
SIN-JNB about SGD 2000 (prices ex AU no better) (i can also use points from either AU or SIN for this flight but points still have a value)

So when you look at it an Ex Asia fare is similar price but you dont get to go to South Africa... The thing that is holding me up if waiting for my friends to make up there mind on dates for Europe.
This is why i also put Ukraine in there as a possible start/end point, and its cheap !

If the CX product is not that great then maybe i am just better off on a DONE4, i may even be able to snag upgrades on the SYD-JFK, HKG-LHR legs since i could use QF points.

Just in relation to the CX F product.

This is the old CX product (mine did not come with the grey haired old chap though).

I think that is very similar if not slightly worse than the QF F product.

This is the new CX product:

There is quite a difference.

LCCs are a joke but sometimes they are necessary. Unfortunately trying to get the various flight schedules to match is hard work.

It is just one persons opinion. The CX F product is OK but I would not spend any extra money for it.

You have obviously put a lot of thought into this trip. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Which CX the suite style F or the F that is similar to QF?
It would appear to be the new style product. Whatever is installed in their 744s.

That would be the one. I was allocated 2K. Nothing special. It is just a seat.

There be the rub; for BKK-SIN it is "Just a Seat", unless you are into power/nanny naps. :p

It's a VERY different issue travelling long haul (like HKG-SYD/LHR/JFK vv) when it's very nice that it is able to become more than "just a seat".

Interesting - did you use the loos? They are meant to be quite spacious.

The new product has not been rolled out to the entire fleet so on a 744 you could get either product.

I forgot. I meant to go have a look but got carried away with Sudoku.

Anyway I should mention that I am grateful for the op-up as it was a full flight and it gave me an opportunity to try out first class. Back to WHY and the occassional J for future flights....
