Apple drops iPad pricing

Big W are doing $200 off every iPad model this weekend....this makes the entry level 16Gb model only $398!

Combine this with a trip through customs within the next 30 days...that is one cheap iPad!

But don't you have to repay the TRS refund upon your return??..??

No. However with iOS 4.3 you will be able to use the iPhone as a wireless access point thus removing the need for a 3G iPad. I am considering this for my iPad 2 purchase...

Only on iPhone 4, which I realise quite a few of us have, but not everyone. I’m on a 3GS and can’t share through a wifi connection (running iOS 4.3).

Ahhh of course :)

Maybe I should start taking advantage of this.

Well I did get one, 16 GB Wifi model, with half price case. JB Hi-Fi in Rundle Mall Adelaide did a price match including half price on any case (I just got the standard Apple one). Myer Adelaide wouldn't price match. DJ's didn't have any stock.

Rather happy. :D

BTW: yes I remember my previous pronouncements on ipad - yes I'm a hypocrite :p

Some interesting rumors on the iPad3

Our Take: Apple’s iPad 2 Announcement

Devin: To be perfectly honest right now I’d say the best deal on the market is a refurbished original iPad, which you can get for only $349 right now. Until the Android devices start driving each other’s prices down and/or the iPad 3 hits at the end of the year, you’ve got a solid and now fairly cheap tablet to hold you over
Nicholas: So, the iPad 2, eh? I guess it’s a solid device—Apple knows how to make a shiny piece of kit—but it’s hard to get too excited about it when you know the iPad 3 will be available in just a few months. That’s what the rumors suggest, at any rate.

Kyle: The iPad 2 is just an evolution. Other than a few features (dual-cameras, dual-core A5 chip, and mirrored HDMI), there isn’t much to cause one to line up — I’m waiting for a high-rez display.

Apple suck! They've finally pushed me over the edge, and I will be jail breaking my 3GS as soon as there is an un-tethered jail break available for iOS 4.3

I mean they still sell the 3GS ffs, and the betas for 4.3 had personal hotspot enabled on the 3GS. Can't they get it through their heads that i) I'm stuck on a contract and ii) I don't updated my phone every six months? Holding back features for "older" model devices isn't going to make me blow money to upgrade, it's just going to make me go looking for workarounds or alternatives.

btw, iPad 1 16Gb works out at around $200 if you claim it as a work expense :)

I prefer to call you convert rather than hypocrite ;)

I hadn't realised that - a bit of a shame really. I guess the two year life of the 3GS is over and time to switch to IP5 when it comes out (surprisingly few rumors about that recently).

I will certainly be upgrading - hopefully I will be able to get one in the short window between getting my bonus and going overseas...

@awilcoxson - they arent asking people to upgrade every six months and your phone has the same capability that it had when you bought it (mine has more in fact given the move to iOS 4.2). I remember when I used to change my phone every 18 months or less - it is only because the iPhone is such a comprehensive integrated device that I havent pushed to upgrade sooner.

True, but they are intentionally leaving functionality out that they are providing for the iPhone 4, when there is no technical reason for them to do so (as evidenced by the fact that it works perfectly well with the 3GS in the beta). This ranks right up there with not being able to use the free find my iPhone function on the 3GS (unless you have an iPhone 4 or iPad already registered on the mobile.me account).

I've just been reading and apparently Personal Hotspot over bluetooth is enabled for the 3GS, just not Wifi. Bluetooth is obviously slower than Wifi, but at least it's better than nothing.

I guess the early adopters are less impacted by this business technique - I bought the 3GS within 2 months of launch so I am ready to upgrade in line with the upgrade path Apple sets out.

Hi Folks

If you are interested in getting an iPad, I can get hold of them very cheaply through a contact.
The numbers are limited and he has 10 iPads going for less than half price, it's first come first served. All the genuine article.
He has already sold one (pic is attached so you can see what you are getting - they are from a cancelled NHS contract due to the cutbacks.)
Get back to me as quick as you can if you want one.

That would be an absolute bargain, at around $1.35!

After one week with ipad I'm puzzled. A couple of questions without notice and off topic to boot.

What is with the charging for ipad. I connect it to my old-ish PC and it says not charging - but overnight last night the battery went from 50% to 70%. It thinks it's charging from the Macbook USB port, So I assume that is just a gemlin. Also do I have to use the new USB ipad cable or can I use my iphone 3G cable to charge ipad?

The other thing, Should I have got headphones with the ipad?

Finally, it looks like a new iphone is the best for me as a 3G iphone is probably no longer supported.

It's much better and quicker to charge via a power point. Your old PC may need an iTunes update should fix the not charging thing. It's fine to use any old apple USB connector, headphones are useful for inflight use.
Enjoy ;)

Thanks for the help. Definitely only using apple icables. And lucky my car adapter seems to work fine.

, headphones are useful for inflight use.
Enjoy ;)

Reading between the lines, I think you're saying it would be useful to buy a pair of headphones. I was more asking if headphones should have been included with the ipad. But I guess the answer is no. meh i suppose.

I find it interesting that with the price drop the iPad 1 in Oz is now pretty much the same price as the iPad 2 in the USA.
