Hey guys,

I'm looking at using Hoteclub.com for the 5 bonus points but every hotel I look at has a non-refundable condition detailed on the terms and conditions at the bottom of the booking page......

I accept the booking conditions of HotelClub and authorise HotelClub to charge my credit card for the amount of the booking upon the issue of the reservation confirmation voucher to me. Click here for HotelClub booking conditions.
I also accept the cancellation conditions as shown below:
  • Cancellation fee of NOK 135 if you cancel after the confirmation voucher has been issued.
  • Hotelclub Net Rate Family Room - Double: This reservation is non-refundable.
100% of booking value if you cancel or amend at any time.
The cancellation fee of NOK 135 (equivalent to AUD 22.50*) will NOT be charged in this case.

Is this always the case with hotelclub? It doesn't seem to matter which room type or class I choose, always the exact same conditions at the bottom.

Depends on the hotel and the room you're picking. Some are restricted, some less so. There's always a fee of some description though (charged by HotelClub, maybe not the hotel again depending on the rate)

Generally they are non changeable etc. There are some exceptions though.

As mentioned by others it does depend on the hotel.

It would appear a lot of the hotels in Asia are fully refundable. Something I have seen quite a lot on Agoda which may have triggered HotelClub into action.

Have just been traveling in Europe (Italy and Greece) via the UAE for the last 5 weeks and used Hotels.com on 6 occasions. Found that mostly in Europe I had the choice of non refundable and refundable options. Had no issues whatsoever with any of the bookings via Hotels.com.au website.
I am not surprised that the Norwegian example quoted is non refundable as having lived in Norway for a year finding a good deal would be a tough assignment.
