Hi everyone,
Just wanted to ask if anyone has heard any rumours or news if BA are jumping back on the LHR-SIN-SYD kangaroo route this year now that NSW is opening up fully. Currently they still are only operating from April 2022 I believe.

Solution
This is in the unverified galley gossip category but I have just read on my BA Gold Facebook group that Flights may be happening. Resuming from December via SIN using the VTL program.

Haven't seen anything yet. Up until mid/late March they are only offering codeshares to HKG and then BA to LHR, with BA15/16 then coming on line again with their old B787 fit-out.

Please correct me if i'm wrong - Is the old 787 J fit-out that terrible 2-2-2 configuration with every other seat facing backwards ?

Worse than that. It is 2-3-2 and the seats are narrow as well as facing your neighbour.
Indeed. I'm planning to fly SYD-LON sometime next year in J class, but I won't be considering BA, even though I'm BA Gold and have enough avios for an award ticket.

What an awful setup for a long flight (and a waste of avios/cash)...

Agree. Those A350s can't come soon enough.

There’s lots of chatter on Flyertalk but nothing confirmed.
BA do have VTL flights to SIN so I expect it would depend on what happens with Australia and SIN.

I actually wouldn’t be surprised if it gets brought forward. NSW and soon to be VIC are already pretty much in Phase C of the National plan. F3294DE0-0A84-4AB9-AC1C-5437C60769B8.jpeg

Honestly don't have a problem facing backwards - it's not as if you can see out the windscreen...

The last two window seats in J and the two in front of the galley have direct aisle access with nobody to disturb. They are super private and I've really enjoyed those flights (and slept very well).

The 787-10 is all front facing (1-2-1 config) but only two of them in service with the rest still on order.

Currently the Federal Govt, who control the border, have stated will only allow AU citizens, PR's & eligible family to enter AU (and therefore NSW). When AU will be open for general travel is unknown. For me would not be expecting this calendar year. Would guess 2022 Q1.
Long haul EU/UK to AU, when it starts, will be a lot of competition from QF, the ME3 and other Asian airlines

Is that the config with those stupid collapsible wall things that the FA’s have to put up and down in order to serve you and you get to stare directly at a strangers face when they are down? Loath that config.

You got it. Might be ok if its your partner you are staring at, but a bit of a lottery if on your own.

And that noise they make when they go up and down up and down during service. Then the FA accidentally leaves it down and it’s a game of chicken as to who raises it again so you aren’t staring lovingly into a strangers eyes 😂

BA presumably would want fully vaccinated Brits to be able to come to Sydney as tourists with no quarantine. Maybe they could get by for a little bit with pent up demand from Aussies to come home, but their core customer base is British people.

...and Tony Hancock 😀

Hopefully by the time BA restart SYD the chances of getting the new business seat will be greatly improved.
