Are DSC's Finished?

It is about the vast majority who earned their status in strict accordance with the published rules and do expect or receive any 'favours' from QF. I was just trying to state how 'fake' status effects those who earned their status the correct way.

Agreed.

IMO DSC will continue for as long as QFF see a need to offer them. Clearly, the last couple of years has seen a massive need......

So is the correct way to pay for travel with your own cash, and is it "fake" to gain status on the company coin?

I would bet there are more of the latter than those who fund their own travel using the rare DSC offers to obtain SG and above.

I think getting into arguments about whether someone's status is real or not is a bit like the arguments about what defines a Frequent flyer! I have over 10,000 status credits of which around 200 came as a result of a DSC and I had already requaled for WP when I took advantage of it. I also fund all my own travel. However I think it is Qantas who chooses to offer the DSC and presumably it makes business sense to them - i.e. generates revenue that they wouldn't have otherwise received. I would be fairly sure if they ever become profitable again and fill their planes DSCs will go the way of the Dodo, but I don't think you can blame people who get them from taking advantage of them . :) My gut feel is that there are fewer around but I don't know if that is true or not - Master FM is the only one in our family who has received one in the last 12 months and his is only a 50% one, whereas the year before we all received one.

With the reduction of SCs for OW partners and the severe reduction of destinations if they don't offer DSCs then lots of folks will just give up on maintaining QF status.

As a self funded P1, I do not care how others get their SC (self funded or company travel), as long as it is to the exact same terms and conditions that apply to everybody else.

To QF, a company funded P1 is most likely worth far more than a self funded P1. So why should self funded FF get any advantages over a company funded FF?

If QF allowed it then it is correct. Just because you and certain others didn't benefit from it doesn't mean it isn't so.

It would be better than the current system, but is nowhere near 'fair'. Even as a P1, a global DSC promotion for Q3 2014 would do absolute nothing for me (as I have already requalified P1 and earned LTG years ago) but it would create numerous 'fake' WP and P1 I would have to compete with for seating, award bookings, lounge access etc.

Imagine the outcry if the ATO 'selected' a few taxpayers to receive a discount on their tax whilst everybody else had to pay the full amount.

With the greatest respect you are putting the W in WP1.

Realistically the amount of extra P1's that got it via DSC would be mind boggling small, the club hasn't been infested with the riff raff.

As for "competing" with you, if they don't fly enough to be WP then they will not be taking up your lounge space as they don't fly enough.

Personally I think the "elite" days of the high tier frequent flyers are long gone, clinging onto some faint slither of ever reducing benefits is a losing game.

I don't understand what is all the fuss about getting P1 the "easy way". As someone who re-qualifies every year the "hard way" I couldn't care less how many members are there and how they get to P1.
What are they competing with me for? Priority seating? Big deal!
Maybe I would be bothered a bit if the program would have actually benefit me more then others like it supposed to be.
Bring on DSC, white cards for everyone!

Removing all bonus SC promotions would be a true enhancement to QFF. You want the status, earn it.

Figuring out all the loop holes as well as countless hours of studying threads on here and other forums is hard work my friend...as were the days spent flying to such terrible places as Nadi, Honolulu and Oranjestad - consider my status earnt!

Your life must be so hard.

I don't think they are finished.

Double SC promotions are supposed to be random and beneficial to Qantas as well as the individual targetted. In recent times people have been able to predict the double SC promotions and use to their advantage.

Perhaps Qantas is trying to make them random again which is where they belong.
