Are QantasLink going to fly to Biloela, Olympic Dam, Quilpie and Cooma?

Hi everyone,

I was just on the Qantas website and noticed some new locations have been added to the "Latest flight deals" dropdown on the Qantas homepage. There are no deals listed yet, but their addition is interesting... and I suspect possibly premature:

- Biloela (Thangool)
- Olympic Dam
- Snowy Mountains (Cooma)
- Quilpie

Doing some Googling, there are also deal pages that have been set up for these airports on qantas.com, but no flights have been loaded into the system nor have these destinations been added to the flight search.

Looks like these could be yet to be announced additions to the QantasLink route map?

QantasLink operated to Cooma seasonally as recently as 2022 for the snow season, and currently operates charters multiple times a week for Snowy Hydro from MEL/SYD/BNE. The other destinations would be new to QantasLink, if they were to actually eventuate.

Nice spot.
Presumably the government is trying to find a way to keep air service to the communities only served by Rex. Given Qantas link is getting rid of their smaller -8s it'll be really interesting to see how this pans out.

Their first new midlife Q400 is about to land in BNE after a long ferry from Westjet in Canada, it will be interesting to see where they go.

Olympic dam is a contract. Was on Qantas years ago, then went to Alliance. Back with Qantas?... meh

Do you reckon the BNE base will be first to go all Q400 with SYD and then MEL ADL later?

I have heard on the grapevine that simulator availability is tight so might be might be some alternative places being looked at to convert all Dash 8 to Dash 8 Q400.

Sunnies used to do the Thangool run up until a few years ago. Not sure what happened. The bloke at the pub said he was the local Qantas club

BNE would be close already to all Q400

I think you are right, don't think there is any 200/300 flights out of BNE at all

Link fly a Metro there, seems unlikely it would support a Q400

If there was at least one decent pub in OLP, it would make for a fun pub crawl ex. ADL.

:p

Actually that makes me wonder – how many AFF lounge crawls could be pulled within 24 hours?

The OLP footy club was pretty good last time I was there.
I heard the Roxby Club went bust, but might have re-opened. The Tavern has ups and downs but is usually pretty good. I've heard the Tuckerbox at Andamooka closed (burnt).
The Eldo at Woomera has been done up a bit, and is pretty good (2023). Plus there is the Woomera Sports club that opens on a Tuesday or Thursday night.
I have been to William Creek pub for a meal and a few drinks - but that's a one pub pub crawl... and a bit of a drive.

Within 24 hours, could probably do KUL, SIN and HKG. That's probably the biggest bang for buck for lounge crawls.

I’m up there regularly for work and last visit it was open Wednesday and Thursday evenings for about 3hrs and Friday night from 5 until midnight. It’s a ghost town these days

Cheers
I forgot the exact days.
Yeah, Woomera is pretty much dead. Hard to believe they had something like 18 footy teams at one stage.
I reckon the town opens up more in the cool months. I was there for a week or so doing work in 2023. That was around September/October and the flies had started to come out. About a week after that trip I reckon they shutdown most activity due to the heat.
