Are QF Dash-8s really this good?

The Dash 8s SYD cbr are faster but the md80s are more comfortable. Decidedly Air Sickness Happens. Was on a dash once were 3/4s of the pax were sick in thunderstorms and we circled above Goulburn for 30mins waiting for a weather window. I for one enjoyed even more Rolling Cab Savs... :-)

I've never flown a QF MD-80 !!

Have had some very nice reds on the QF link services though - I agree.

The 717's are derived from the MD80's aren't they?

Well they are derived from dc-9s if you wanna go this far and originally were MD95s before Boeing took over. Or you can just be correct and say 717.

MD-95 I believe. After the merger Boeing pursued the 717. Very similar of course. My comment should have had a :)

Edit: as Aussie_flyer said!

So should have mine... I know that B717s are not MD80s! MD80s were the first rear engines/wings plane I flew... and the B717 always reminds me of them...

I think I knew that - but worth noting just in case you'd had one too many Rollings....

I like the Dash8s, always try for one if heading to Canberra and on them this Wednesday to Albury.

Better than the REX Saab., wonder if the start button is on the floor. :D

I don't mind the Dash 8s - in fact, as I'm >190cm tall I prefer the Q400 legroom-wise to the 738s. Being from CBR I do try to get the 717s when I can, but that's mostly because of the refurbed interior more than anything else.

I do a lot of flying on the Q400 (No choice really), much more spacious leg room than the 738's imo. The overhead luggage bins are small, which can be annoying if it's the last leg of an international flight with a load of carry-on. Otherwise a James Boag and the snack box please!

Matt G is correct,

QLink Dash 8's use a shortened version of the flight number as their callsign. Basically all flights only use the last 3 numbers (unless the 2nd and 3rd digits are 0, in which case they are dropped too) and the Q400's add Delta to the end so that Air Traffic Control can easily distinguish the Q400 from the Q200/300's.

The PNG flights only use 3 digit flight numbers to fit in with the QF system of flight numbers so no change is required.

The original post shows data that is sourced from an aircrafts ADS-B transponder. As these are now being fitted to the Q300's, additional flights will show up that maybe their database doesn't contain.

Example;
QF2001 - QLK1D
QF2020 - QLK20
QF2192 - QLK192
