Hi all

Just doing some completely non-scientific analysis of the AFF types. I note often that many people on the boards are not from where they are now (in fact found out someone here is from the same county that part of my family are from and from the same county I went to school) so I thought it would be interesting to profile the group. So how would classify your geographic history? I have made four options in the poll:

"Home is where the heart is" - you grew up in your home town, stayed in your home town and most likely will die in your home town
"Boomeranger" - Born and raised where you now live but a portion of the time in between was spent elsewhere
"Aussie Nomad" - Not living where you were born and have drifted around Australia
"Child of the world" - not only not born where you now live but the place you were born is a long way from here - on another continent!

I think I know what the least used category is going to be :)

Need some scope definition.

e.g. I was born in a Victorian country town but don't live there; I live in metropolitan Melbourne - so still in Victoria.

If it was England and you lived in the same county you were born in I would say "Home is where the heart is" but given the size of the "counties" [aka states] here I would say Aussie Nomad.

Personally I am a child of the world, bonr in central England, lived then in the West of England, Germany, North East England, Southern England, South West England, Central England, London and now Sydney...

I would be an Aussie nomad/ child of the world ... I am not living where I was born far far away but keep drifting around Australia/ rest of the world

Option 4 for me. Born and raised in Scotland, starting travelling at Uni via a few hefty student loans, paid them off ( well had Shrek pay them off for me ;) ) and moved here.
Long term plans involve owning a croft in the Inner Hebrides and dividing my time between here and Europe/UK when I'm older and richer.

I'm not much of an Aussie Nomad : I was born in Adelaide, moved to Melbourne a year ago.

Likewise.

I grew up in a Victorian Country town and now live 50 km from that town BUT the proximity is purely coincidental.

Can't see myself as nomadic - I live ~70km from where I was born and ~50km from MEL.

Born in metro Sydney, live in metro Sydney now. In between, though, I've spent quite a few years in other places.

In this order:

Metro Sydney, outer-western Sydney, metro Sydney, near Goulburn NSW, Central Coast NSW, metro Sydney, Southeast QLD, North QLD, metro Sydney.

Planning to move overseas in the next year or two, though.

Born in Country Victoria where I lived till I finished High School and then moved to Sydney to study. Moved then to Melbourne and haven't left. It is quite sad going back to the old home town and seeing that everyone is exactly the same as they were 20 years ago.

Born in London, resided there briefly, followed by New York, London (again), Melbourne, Warrnambool, Melbourne (again), Singapore, Melbourne (yet again and still).

Consider myself Australian through and through but just love Singapore.

Born in Leuven Belgium, moved about 7 times in Belgium before I turned 18 then a short time in Quebec and moved to Metro Sydney almost 5 years ago. Will probably move to BKK in the next couple of years and then back to Europe... But this can change :D

Born and bred in Sydney.Age 28 moved to Maitland in the hunter valley.Did some work in Singleton and Muswellbrook whilst there.
Age 46 moved to the Sunshine Coast initially working in Caloundra and then Buderim.Whilst there did a bi monthly run to Biggenden,Gayndah,Mundubberah,Eidsvold and Monto.
Last 5.5 years since retiring from my practice have worked in Mt.Isa,Mackay,Rockhampton,Bundaberg,Hervey Bay,Nambour,Dubbo,Griffith,Broken Hill,Mt.Gambier,Burnie and Latrobe.Have just ticked over 1 year working in Tassie in this time.
So well and truly an Aussie nomad.

Born Newcastle. There 1974-1996 in various places.
Lived Sydney 1996-2001 then Newcastle briefly again.
Melbourne 2002-present.

Home = Melbourne but a fair chunk of my heart is still in Newcastle.

I'm only 21, born and lived in Perth my whole life

I want to go elsewhere and do other things. Wherever the plane takes me, is where I will be!!

I'm a boomeranger dressed up as an Aussie Nomad. I've boomeranged around Oz until I married someone who is a "home is where the heart is". I my desire to return home is weighted down, so to speak. ;)

Aussie nomad
Central Q -> Bris -> rural NSW -> Sydney-> Sunshine Coast -> Melbourne --> ?
I now bite at jokes against both queenslanders and Victorians ( I moved here when Joh for pm was on, so there was lots of potential)
