If waiting for the 737/A320 replacements, then you will be waiting quite some time. Both Airbus and Boeing have said they will not be doing this until there is a leap forward in engine technology that will deliver the 20-25% efficiency improvements needed to justify the development, and neither is going to start now and let the other come in later with a more efficient product. So they are looking to things like geared turbofans that may be able to deliver the fuel savings needed.crazydave98 said:Yes we would consider widebodies, but not just the ones you mention and in fact certainly not the B767 which burns more fuel per seat than the B737-800. Interestingly it is likely that the aircraft families that replace the B737 and A320 will also replace the B757, B767-200, A300 and A310 - that is we could be in for some new generation short haul widebodies with up to 250 seats.
When the technology is available, there is going to be a huge demand from most airlines looking for short-haul options in the 140-250 seat category.
So the only new generation option that is somewhat optimised for short-haul ops that would be available in say the next 2-8 year window will be the 787-3 and that has not been a big seller so far (has anyone ordered it?).
So I can only assume that you mention of short-haul widebodies with up to 250 seats means 787-3 or you are looking at probably 8-10 years out.
