Arrivals Access to DOM J Lounges and QPs - QF needs to update staff on policy!

Used it on Sat evening after arriving into MEL from a domestic flight at approx 8:15pm.
We walked in holding up BPs and WP card. The 2 x LDs were deep in a conversation. One turned and appeared to look at the BPs as we strode in (without slowing / stopping). We received a brief smile / smirk and that was that. The J lounge was closed so needed to use the QP wich was 99% empty. Had a pair of G&Ts and some nibbles (late lunch) then proceeded to our dinner date.

Like others, I simply approach the desk and present my card as I never have a BP. I pause to make it clear that they can take it if they wish but in most lounges they never do. The only lounge that scans it is Perth. And whenever I land at Perth I want to get away from the airport as quickly as possible, so have never used it for arrivals. I have see others get scanned at ADL but I'm there fairly regularly and I never get scanned.

yep and I'm there fairly regularly and they always scan my card. Looks like they know us well  ;)

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the feedback here. Seems a bit inconsistent and I will pass on your feedback and ensure that the lounge staff are reminded of the access policy.

Cheers

I'm not in favour of the just 'flash the card and keep walking approach' to arrivals access if one also has a physical BP (I know some people do not use them). The pax (presumably) knows the rules re arrivals access but by only flashing a card they also know that there is no way the lounge guardian could be expected to know that you have flown in from somewhere which means, if they do the job they should be doing, they then have to stop you and ask for the BP, which neither party probably wants to happen.

I just flash the card so that I don't have to wait behind someone who is desperate to change from their prebooked 6:30 flight to the 6:45 and move to 4C even though they do not have a flexible ticket... I have no issue being challenged and if they ask to see the BP I can tell them that I am checked in and will board using the card. I don't see it as a confrontation but I don't want to be waiting either.

In about 22 trips to the MEL J lounge in the past two years (a lot less than it feels like) I do not recall being challenged once.

Wow- I never even was AWARE of this benefit!

I should read the QF page more closely I think! Then again... If you have checked luggage, it will be a rather short stop in the lounge. Still enough for a quick glass of booze or two ;)

And on those annoying one day work trips to Melbourne or Brissy when I only have hand luggage- I won't be home much ahead of 10pm from now on

I mostly use it to clean my teeth before seeing people, not booze. ;)

I've been using arrivals access in MEL quite a bit lately so I can quickly go to the loo before heading out to the skybus.

The loos in the main terminal are often crowded and in need of a good clean/scrub. :\

It has already been mentioned but using a BP rather than card seems to make a lot of things easier when entering the lounge. I have never had it examined for more than a quick glance to see WP
